Nugget on Amari Cooper

ok, Saturday is the time to judge whether Dak and Cooper is a fit together or not. BOTH MEN better be on the same page from the coin flip on or it will be a tough go.Seattle will run us out of our own stadium by the 3rd quarter. We just cant expect to turn around and run Zeke. Dak and Amari MUST take it up a notch early.

I expect Seattle will load the box and make Dak beat them with his arm. Its that simple. He must be GOOD DAK early on.

If Seattle loads the box, especially if they go crazy and load it with 9, Amari and Dak are going to have a field day.

I agree, stop the run cold. Make Russ Wilson beat you. Make them one dimensional. The way you can do that is by scoring everytime you get the ball. Take them out of their game plan. We will see a heavy dose of Baldwin and lockett.

what scares me is the patchwork oline we have...ie CONNOR Williams. He is too small and tends to get manhandled inside. I SEE MULTIPLE HOLDING PENALTIES COMING.

No. Antonio Brown is like TO in his prime. Great player but horrible personality to deal with. Those guys are never worth it long term.
Are you drinking the crazy juice already...

That was a bad and untimely drop, but since drops have not been a problem with him, I'm not worried about it.
He is a guy that has to have touches or he will sulk and lose concentration, leading to drops and bad routes.

I wonder if there’s any truth to the rumor that Oakland finally was offered a 1st by another team and had a change of heart and turned them down. Stephen calls in with the same offer and after some discussion they accept. If that is true, you gotta give the front office another pat on the back for getting it done....

I'm still not certain about Cooper, I have to admit. His receiving yards in games for the Cowboys:
217
180
76
75
58
36
32
31
20

Reminds me a bit of his games for the Raiders:
128
116
17
10
9

Don't get me wrong. He's helped the team a lot, just by virtue of having a competent credible outisde receiver on the field. He's a vast upgrade from the guys we were running out there. We don't make the playoffs this year without him. I'm just not convinced he'll prove to be that stud #1 who will justify the money he's going to be paid. I hope so, but that's a lot of games with minimal productivity.
Those numbers aren't similar.

Totally disagree. All they have to do is keep on doing what they’ve been doing since he got here.

He had a few huge games but has otherwise been pedestrian in his direct impact on the field. It's the indirect impact he has, safeties shading him etc., that's been most important.

What did he do with the receivers pre-Amari?

The same thing over two-thirds of the QB's in this league would do with them- very little. You can't go out there with Allen Hurns or the since-cut Deonte Thompson as your number one receiver and expect defenses to fear your passing game. Maybe a Tom Brady or a Drew Brees can make something happen, but those types of QB's are rare, and that's what makes them so special.

The Cowboys owned up to the mistake they made thinking they could make receiver-by-committee work. Even when Amari Cooper hasn't been producing himself, he's drawing coverage that lets the other guys get open. Dallas had nobody that could do that before he got here. Cooper makes Dak better, he makes the other receivers better, he makes the whole offense better.

That's why they gave up the one for him.

Wait.… ......I thought we gave up a top 10 pick for a guy with the drops, who doesn't even love football? :muttley:
He's had 2 outstanding games and the rest were mediocre.

Because if Amari is doing it when no one else is sans Amari, then it's more likely Amari not Dak.

The claim was that Dak made NO ONE better. And since Amari was doing squat in Oakland that claim is now out the window.

Now to your separate point. Could have some validity, but who does Dallas have that was anyone remotely quality?

Gallup was a rookie and one could say he improved throughout the year. Cant say that's attributed to Dak. Might be Dak or it might just be maturation. Same with rookie TE and practice squad TE. Williams just sucks and got injured early. Beasley has pretty much been the same for a bunch of years. So who are we talking about really? Hurns?

Your point doesn't really apply here. Now going forward with these young pass catchers getting more experience, you might say that. And actually we have seen that.

You can't say that because you don't know WHY he wasn't productive. There are some who say he was turned off by Gruden and lost his passion.
Amari with the Cowboys is a different dynamic than Amari with the Raiders.

But isn't that the point of "making people around him better"? Who is Chris Hogan without Tom Brady?
An elite quarterback is supposed to make the players around him better. Then again, I'm pretty sure we're not arguing that Dak is elite so this argument is kind of pointless. I was just expounding on CalPoly's point.

I think my point was an explanation. But it's all good. The game is about to start. Go Dak! Go Cowboys!
