I meant to post this last week, and none of it is earth shattering news. A relative of mine recently was at the house of a fomer high ranking 49ers official who still has close ties to the league and he discussed 3 things;

1.) He said Jerry Jones wanted so bad to be the first team to host the SuperBowl in their home stadium, that he felt the Cowboys could just show up this season and they would be in the big game.

2.) He said the league is dragging thier feet with the Farve-Stenger thing as the really dont want to do anything and it happened to work out the the Vikes pretty much are done. The NFL did not put its best and brightest people on the case.

3.) He said Roger Goodell really wants to see the Eagles win the Super Bowl this year as it makes him feel even better about his decision to reinstate Vick last year.

That's all.

I'm not denying that your relative met a former niners official and all that, but numbers 1 and 3 sound badly like just some guy's opinion.

I really don't like to read/hear that any NFL commissioner particularly wants a specific NFL team to win the SB. Maybe I'm naive, but I believe he should hold himself to the high standard of rooting for any and all NFL teams 0-0- not be biased towards 1 particular team for any reason.

The official is close with Jerry and Roger Goodell from what I understand. FWIW

I hear you. My relative also said, according to the former offical, Goodell likes to give a second chance and it pleases him that Vick is doing so well.

Yeah, perfectly clear logic.

I'd say #1 was pretty obvious.

Number 3... Let's hope it isn't true.

But I don't put anything past the disaster that is Goodell.

The way he handled Spygate and Wankergate trumps all the 'good things' he's done for the league.

Guys can't dance with their teammates after scoring, disrespects the integrity of the game. But videotaping signals and sending sext messages are fair game.

Seriously.

If anyone under 70 is upset by non-prop celebrations they need a slap in the face. Its all fun dummy!

The sweeping under the rug of spygate made people think what they did wasnt beneficial.

Except they spent countless hours doing it and risked being fined $1M+ and draft picks.

And they won those SB's by close margins every time. Total asterisk imo

I cant watch Vick on these 8 yard runs and not think puppy strangler w/ every step. Cant see how anyone can go Vick > Matt Ryan

Many of them just don't understand the feeling of getting into the end zone

You work all offseason long with your teammates. Lifting, studying film, running, sweating, bleeding, etc.

Then you work all week preparing, studying coverages, looking for tendancies, etc. You finally get to execute it on Sunday. It's 3rd and 5 in the 4th and you're trying to ice the game. You go play action, they blitz, everyone does their job, running back picks it up, and you're streaking down the field behind the corner. QB throws a good ball and you just clinched your division.

Now go hand the ball to the ref and run back to the bench, emotionless.

But it's okay to involve divine intervention into all this, don't celebrate but by all means - take the time out of this grueling battle to thank the almighty.

I remembered the Dirty Birds and the Rams team dances back in the day were cool. It wasn't showing up the other team, it was celebrating. Their job is to stop you from scoring, stop them from scoring, and you won't get clowned on.

I know Owens and Ocho Cinco took it over the top with self-agrandizing ****, but if guys wanna celebrate with their teammates let them.

I don't think there's much the league could do about the Sterger case, regardless of what ******** tends to think.

There's nothing wrong with an employee hitting on another employee even if the employee is married. The PR guy getting involved is a bit creepy, but nothing wrong. And there's no proof or evidence that the photos taken were Favre's. Lastly, Sterger didn't report this and apparently didn't want to report this. It's like ******** doesn't even know how a sexual harassment case actually works.

If Sterger was sexually harassed, she cannot just go and sue the Jets or the NFL. She has to notify them first and then they need to handle the situation, either buy suspending Favre, banning Favre, fining Favre, etc. Typically employers will just fire the person they feel was guilty of sexual harassment and that way the accuser doesn't have a case against the company (unless it happens again with another employee)

But Sterger has to make the complaint. And I'm not a Favre fan by any means, but I don't think Sterger should have to be forced into something she didn't even really care to report to the league or the Jets.

The entire case hinged on whether they can prove Favre took those photos. If not, there's nothing the league can do. ********'s gripe that they don't need proof because they don't need proof with Big Ben and they suspended him is ridiculous. Big Ben had been accused before and it was obvious he did something in Georgia that was inappropriate and the girl had no idea who he was and didn't want to press charges when she found out that he was a big sports celebrity.

#1 is so completely counter-intuitive I don't know where to start. Logic would dictate that if Jerry wanted it so bad he would have moved Heaven and Earth to field the best team possible and yet he didn't lift a finger to repair an offensive line that has almost single-handedly ended this team's past several season's,,, and this was an uncapped year no less!

If this is true I'm afraid we have a seriously delusional owner who is "too close" to this team to be an objective and successful GM.

Sterger's people can't complain about the league dragging their feet, it took her two years to file the complaint.

ONE thing one needs to remember about spygate: Goodell was on a tight leash by the owners. They did not want one of the INNER GROUP looking too bad. You have to remember that if enough owners agree on something they give Goodell his orders and there is nothing he can do about it.

She's not complaining. She never filed a complaint. ******** found out about it, then paid off one of her friends to give them stuff that Sterger had shown her friend.

She's really wanted nothing to do with this. That's why it's ridiculous that ******** tries to act like they are some sort of watchdog/guardian angel. They are just a Web site that wanted more Web site clicks so they could charge advertisers more and line their own pockets. It had little to do with journalism or helping out a 'victim.'

I'm sure Goodell feels good about reinstating Vick. Vick is saying all of the right things and playing in a way that entertains the masses.

What's not to like from Goodell's perspective?

The last thing on Gods green Earth that I want...is for that POS Vick to win a Super Bowl...Especially in Cowboys Stadium.

Just vomitus.

I think its true too. Its the type of loser Goodell is.

Worst commissioner in NFL history, maybe sports history.
