My concern at first blush is we saturated a couple of positions. CB is obvious. Unless Scandrick is a goner this year one of the CBs is almost certain to get cut based on numbers. It won't be Brown obviously.

If the low drafted CBS get cut solely based on numbers it is a wasted pick. The late round CB only makes sense if Scandrick is a goner.

I'm not sure the late round DE is better than anything we currently have. Why add another so so DE to a saturated position?

I am probably a bit more cautious about this draft class than most of you. I am hopeful based on the board's optimism, but after our 5th round pick we may have been better off flipping every one of those picks for a higher round pick next year with the possible exception of the OSU receiver.

That's what practice squads are for.

Having such a wealth of riches in positions at which we were terribly weak 3 days ago that we have to make some tough cuts is a problem I'm happy to have.

That's why you have what, 90 players or so for training camp, and the one's who don't make final cut go to practice squad.

You look for traits in the 6th-7th round...not guys that are going to be an instant contributor.

I think it would have been hard to upgrade any of our needs on offense in those last 2 rounds. Not gonna find a RT that will play anytime soon there, or a TE better than what we have.

So I'm okay seeing if Marquez White can force himself onto the roster, and if not be on the PS.

I think the team will look to get rid of Nolan Carroll and/or OScan next year, so it's good to have guys waiting in the wings.

There is no guarantee that when we cut these guys that they won't be claimed by another team. They may never make it to the practice squad.

given the number of DBs needed, a saturation approach makes sense.
not all the picks are going to pan out, and you have injuries.

had no idea what the latest DL were for but does hedge for injuries.

i have no idea what the OSU receiver is for other than in case of injuries.

Quite honestly, I could see the WR possibly bumping Butler off of the roster. Butler may have his work cut out for him to make the 53 man roster this year.

butler is tall and very fast though inconsistent.

thought that OSU receiver was very raw?
if so, have no idea why he was drafted.

He single handedly destroyed the OU Sooners. I think he has a potentially high ceiling. Moreover from what I understand Zeke got up on the table for him and vouched for his skill set.

i heard about zeke also, and he could have talent.
but is he very raw or not?

espn:
My take: If you're looking only at the Oklahoma game last year, when he scored four touchdowns, Brown could be another Dez Bryant. He had only three touchdowns the rest of the season as the Ohio State passing game struggled. The highlights from the Oklahoma game spell out what he can be -- a big-time playmaker who can go and get the ball or make the tough catch. There will be consistency issues, but he has the talent that makes him worth a seventh-round pick.
How he fits: He is young to the game in many ways, playing in only 24 games in two seasons with the Buckeyes. He missed the 2015 season because of a leg injury. With Bryant, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley and Brice Butler, the Cowboys' top four receivers look solid. They drafted Ryan Switzer in the fourth round and Brown in the seventh. There are too many bodies and not enough slots at the moment to expect Brown to make a big impact as a rookie.

Other teams across the league have the same problem you are mentioning. And the way the roster sits, there's only a couple of positions that wouldn't have immediately jumped into a roster crunch anyways by then. TE maybe if Swaim and Hanna aren't healed. QB if they decide to go 3 deep, which seems unlikely because of better players than a 3rd QB that they probably go deep at. RB is about the only spot you can make a case for those 7th Rd picks to have a decent shot at making the 53 imo. Take the upside, and if they have to be cut , there's a much better chance they sign to our PS over a team who didn't draft them and spend 4 months working with them.

For what I understand he isn't raw. He supposedly had a really great junior year and then sort of got lost in the shuffle this year. From what I understand the drop off is stats was situational. The Cowboys drafted him based on the belief that his production in prior years was more indicative of his ability than his senior year stats.

Yeah. I know the way we hope it all works. I can just see teams poaching off our draft picks before we can get them to the practice squad. Hopefully that won't happen.

That's just the chance you must take once assigning a player the practice squad is deemed the best option. The staff will have some difficult decisions to make once TC is completed. It's that way every year and this one is sure to be no exception. There are simply no guarantees.
