Great to have real competition for roster spots in training camp:popcorn:

Exactly. When you are rebuilding positions, such as we are with the secondary and the DLine, competition is key. Its better to lose a 6th or 7th rounder to waivers than to let too many people be comfortable.

That's what practice squads are for.

This, exactly. We basically just built up our "farm system" for cornerbacks.

Leon McFadden is also no sure thing to make the roster. I see the opening day depth chart as: Scandrick, Brown, Awuzie, Carroll, Lewis, and one other player.

Scandrick, Awuzie, Lewis, Brown, Carroll, White.

With Awuzie having position flex to safety if need be.

What's the problem?

We carried 5 CBs and 5 safeties on the 53 starting the 2016 season. So my guess:

CB - OScan, Brown, Carroll, Awuzie and Lewis. Kid from FSU ends up on practice squad.

S - Heath, Blanton, Jones, Woods, Frazier

Definitely something to work with there.

I'm a firm believer that sometimes we just need new players to improve a position. Some were "comfortable" with Mo and Carr, but until they leave/left we weren't getting any better. Good job front office, I bet we are better this year.

My concern at first blush is we saturated a couple of positions. CB is obvious. Unless Scandrick is a goner this year one of the CBs is almost certain to get cut based on numbers. It won't be Brown obviously.

If the low drafted CBS get cut solely based on numbers it is a wasted pick. The late round CB only makes sense if Scandrick is a goner.

I'm not sure the late round DE is better than anything we currently have. Why add another so so DE to a saturated position?

I am probably a bit more cautious about this draft class than most of you. I am hopeful based on the board's optimism, but after our 5th round pick we may have been better off flipping every one of those picks for a higher round pick next year with the possible exception of the OSU receiver.

You need a ton of corners or secondary people. The nickel is more or less the defense we will be in a lot of the time. And injuries always happen. There is no guarantee that one of our top few picks will turn out. Get as many young talent corners or secondary guys as you can throw in there.

I would be disappointed if Heath was the starting safety first game of the season.

The OSU receiver wasn't drafted to contribute this year (although truthfully you never really know). He was drafted for competition and possibly for the future. You have to take a player at some position when it's your time to make a selection. The FO obviously thought he was the best available at that point.

Still think Scandrick likely a goner. You have to remember one of the least thought about benefits of the draft is cheap labor to balance the cap. CB is one of the higher paid positions in the league so they have three cheap contracts the next four years. I think White makes the roster. Personally I never would have signed Carroll, never though much of him except someone to exploit when playing against him.
