Was that them? I thought it was me. Tell Jan hello for me if you have a chance.

For those who do not know, Juke's lady is stunning.

yeah yeah...she's ok for a girl. I'll let her know you said "hi"

BTW, that reuben sandwich I had (at 2:00 in the morning) is still the best I've ever had too. How is it you're so skinny with all that good food around there? Must be from running away from guys like Irv and revolving doors.

Funny. Now that I think of it. You came to NY and started eating, immediately. Yep, a reuben at 2AM! That's a good little diner we went to that night.

You know, I still look at the pictures of that cathedral (St. Peter's?) and marvel at the architecture. I probably could have spent an entire afternoon right there on that block.

I really want to see the building King Kong climbed. Almost as much as finding out what a knish is.

That is the one thing we should have done..buy you a knish. You would have been hooked!

One more thing. Juke is right about the taxi ride. I took a taxi from Radio City Music Hall (after day 2 of the Draft) to La Guardia. I told the guy it was my first cab rise and to make it memorable. It was worth it.

He was either Arabic or Indian (no, I'm not profiling) and he was talking into a tape recorder in some foreign language and taking unreal corners.

An absolutely nice guy who I tipped very well I had so much fun.

Yeah. I agree with what you said wholeheartedly - try it ONCE. :D

They had a band playing at BB's the night we went. Wasn't my type of music, but tickets weren't available anyway. George Thorogood played there later that summer, but I had to work that night. We did catch a jazz band some time after that in a little hole in the wall somewhere around Penn Station. Can't remember the name, but it was nice.

We frequented an improv place a few times. We really liked a particular show on the weekends, but the last time we went they had yanked 'em and replaced with the standard standup comedians. Yuck. Out of the 15 they trotted out, 2 were "not terrible". One just made very, very crude Jewish jokes (because he was Jewish, that made it okay?) that were not funny and he got ticked at the ackward silence. One of the better ones was a girl from Plano, TX. "Any of y'all know where thay-at ey-is?" in a thick, Texas drawl. Uh, yep, we do. The other good one I see all the time on those Sierra Mist commercials (Jim Gaffigan). He was clean but still really funny.

There are some great clubs downtown. Small place with very talented musicians.

Last time I was at BB's I saw my idol, Tommy Emmanuel...went up and talked with him after the show. I was like a kid speaking with him.

Now I really am curious. Yeah, I thought that diner was aces.

It was 2:00 a.m. for you, but 11:00 p.m. for me and I hadn't had dinner. Damn American Airlines. If you remember my 60 minute layover in Dallas ended up being only 20 minutes, not enough time to grab a bite.

BTW, you got the new Yankee Manager you wanted. Congrats.

I'll buy a half dozen knishes for ya next week, freeze 'em and Fed Ex them to ya....

It's not that you were hungry at 2AM...it's that you ate this big***reuben at 2AM that blew my mind.

And yeah, I think Girardi was light year's better choice than Mattingly.

If you are venturing into CT or the countryside a few recomendations.

An hour and a half East you can be at the Casino in Foxwoods. It's I believe the biggest Casino in the world tucked away in the forrest of Southeastern CT.

Stop in for Pizza at Pepe's in New Haven - best Pizza going.

Want to go North ride up the scenic Taconic highway - Foliage is beatiful this time of year. And an hour North of the City you will realize that most of NYC and New England is rural.

Not sure if Knicks in town but check out Madison Square Garden

The Village has some diverse restauarants and clubs

Also the South port near Financial District is lively at Night.

Scores is also a trendy place to go :)

I have been to Foxwoods many times. I have worked with them in the past. It's very nice. I think Mohegan Sun is also in Conn. There is also a Museum in Stonington, I believe. It's supposed to be the most comprehensive collection of material in the world for Native Americans. The Mashantucket Pequot Indian Nation built it. I don't know that there would be interest for that but it is a very nice facility if your up that way.

What is uber ironic to me is that my Grandparents lived in Jewett City circa 15 minutes from Mohegan Sun. On My Moms side There is Ct Mohegan Indian blood, one generation removed for qualifying to have been part of all that.

In 70's as a kid I went to The Mohegan Zoo on those grounds, That was like a bear, coyote, few pigs, bobcat and turkeys.

Well... The time is here. I leave tomorrow morning for Dallas. I should be in Connecticut about 10 pm. I just wanted to thank all of you for all the wonderful suggestions. Looks like I will have a very full vacation. I'll be back in Brownwood next Wednesday. I'll be in Commanders territory on Sunday. I've already got an idea for my new sig pic. I'm gonna get a pic of me in my Cowboys sweatshirt under the "Welcome to New York" sign. I'll try to get one in Washington D.C on my way back (two hour layover in D.C). Both pics will be after losses to us. I'm gonna infect the East Coast with Cowboys fever..

My favorites.

Yankee Stadium
Brooklyn Bridge (walk it)
Empire State Building
Statue of Liberty
Battery Park
Stay the hell out of New Jersey unless you're going to River St to look back at the NYC skyline. (that includes the Meadowlands and Giant Stadium)
If you're going to Connecticut drive through the rural areas of Greenwich. (very scenic)
As for restaurants, there are thousands of them and many of them are actually good. Virgil's BBQ near Times Sqaure sucks even though everyone says it's good. Below average for BBQ if you're from Texas. (not counting chain BBQ restaurants in Texas like crappy Colters)
Grand Central Station is a must for anyone.
Rockefeller Center is nice and if it's near Christimas time, Saks will have it's Holiday windows!
Ground Zero, though it's changing fast!
Penn Station with Madison Sqaure Garden above it.
Subway, but don't leave Manhattan on just for a "ride" not actually going anywhere it as you can get in some nasty places once you cross the rivers!
Coney Island (you can take the Subway)

Those alone will burn more than 5 days. NYC can take weeks to see everything. One trip is not enough.
