Just went back and watched highlights of the first game. Kind of forgot how it went exactly.
The Giants took away the run game and put the game in Dak's hands. At times they manhandled our OL, mainly though they were able to bring guys into the box without fear of Dallas making them pay. While Dak had a good game for a rookie QB, he wasn't playing with a full playbook. Remember that in addition to stopping the run, they took away Dez, 1 catch for 8 yds. There was the one deep ball TD to Dez that got overturned but other than that we didn't really challenge them at all.
Our OL did give Dak time and if we can do the same I think it is different outcome this time. Dak will pick them apart. Hope to see us scheme some to get Dez on Apple. The big difference was 'Snacks" and Hankins in the middle clogging the run. Beasley and Witten should have openings in the middle of the field.
On our D, we were without Tank Lawrence and the great majority of the time our pass rushers were Mayowa and Jack Crawford. Yes, you read that right. Oh, and Wilber got some snaps at DE too. I think it is safe to say that we will get more pressure on Eli than we did with Lawrence and Charlton added to the pass rush. Our LB corps took a hit with Hitchens going down, by all accounts he was our second best LB through camp. The platoon of Smith and Durant should get the job done though. Scandrick is much better now than he was a year ago, when he didn't trust the knee and get run past by OBJ. I think the shoe is somewhat on the other foot this go around. OBJ may not have any lateral movement with his ankle issue. Brown has a full year at corner and Carroll knows the Giant receivers. Our biggest loss may be Church but he got victimized in pass coverage multiple times in the game last year.
I think the interior of the line will hold their own this year and the matchup of Lael against JPP and Vernon is going to be huge.
