completely unnecessary imo unless the team, coaches, trainers, etc. are planning on visiting the quarantined hospital rooms and homes of those effected

I don't think it's ever unnecessary to be provided information on something, especially something that some strains are saying have a death rate of 70% or greater. Regardless of how many people are infected, it still is being proactive giving people information about it. Knowledge is power.

"So, in conclusion, don't handle infected blood or vomit during your stay in Dallas."

This is so silly, it almost sounds like one of Coughlin's tricks. If I could think of how it might possibly help them out, I would think it was. As it is, it just seems like a waste of preparation time prior to the game. Or a story he leaked to maybe take attention off the matchup. I can't imagine them being seriously concerned about the team getting ebola, of all things.

Given the nurses were wearing protective gear they got it, the doctor in Africa who they said was very cautious in treating patients with Ebola all got it. Saying it is hard to catch, it may not be as hard as people think. I don't believe in trying to create panic on the other hand people acting as if it is no big deal I disagree it is a big deal. A virus like Ebola has never been in the US and it is now

I dunno I read they were preparing to try to

Endure
Barbaric
Offensive
Line
Assaults

So far every team has tried to do this. It has proven much harder than it sounds.

Perhaps. I really don't know the specifics of the quarantine situation, but that's obviously a very different circumstance from a football team flying in to play a game in the same city.

And I agree I don't think Giant players have anything to concern themselves with, but I am afraid many people are blowing this off acting as if it is no big deal and fact is, it is a big deal. This is one deadly virus that has never made it to the US and now it has. People screw up they make mistakes like an infected nurse who catches a flight from Dallas to Cleveland with 132 passengers they become at risk and all it takes is 1 or 2 getting infected who then interact with others and so on. Things like this can get out of hand quickly

From what I understand the virus is not easily spread. You have to come into contact with the bodily fluids of a person who is both infected and showing symptoms to become infected. The regions where the outbreak has been the worst have been poor countries that have sub par sanitation where a virus like this can thrive and spread more easily. I honestly don't see Ebola as a major threat in the USA as long as the medical care professionals and the CDC to their jobs effectively. I guess the real fear is if it were to mutate into an airborne virus but I read an article on it today that said that Ebola lacks the ability to attach itself to cells within the respiratory system and its highly unlikely that it would be able to develop this ability since virtually no virus like Ebola has been known to be able to do this naturally.

I think that is one of the biggest myths out there. It only takes a very small amount of bodily fluids (yuck) to infect a person and a single sneeze can spread out like 100 feet (bigger yuck) making it pretty much airborne. And medical care professionals and the CDC have already jacked this up six ways to Sunday. The stuff that went on inside that hospital is truly eye opening. They did not take it seriously enough, not even close.

I heard this morning that the average infection spread in Africa is 2 to every 1 who is infected. Thomas Eric Duncan infected 2 so far which means we have failed to do any better. CDC should have taken away each patient immediately to a facility capable of keeping the infection from spreading. They failed to do that with Duncan and just now have decided to do that with the two nurses. The decision makers have been making some major head scratchers.

Yup, and I think that one instance of carelessness was all it took. I don't think we're getting a handle on this any time soon, at least not through quarantine. They had better come up with a viable treatment for this pretty soon because we have NOT contained this, I'm telling you right now.

Ah, yeah, generally, the threat posed by ebola is very real, and it's something to be taken seriously. And the jokes aren't really funny or appropriate.

Yes, we know government agencies can make massive screw-ups. Just look back at how poorly Katrina was handled.

The difference between here and Africa is that a majority of the people in Africa stay very localized in their villages; whereas, he in the US people are highly mobile.

There were 70 people in direct contact with Duncan. Many of those 70 also saw other patients in the hospital.

It reminds me of this old commercial:

One of the main reasons people are contracting the Ebola virus in particularly Africa imo is that the doctors, and nurses is the contact of the human waste from those who have/had it and died from it and pouring it into the rivers the people drink from further infecting many Africans.

As for here in the U.S. the Ebola virus is very real and there have been a few people who have tested positive for the virus some of them brought the virus from Africa, and some of them got this deadly virus coming into contact with those infected as we all now know yes without a doubt this virus can become a national epidemic, but the media imho is using this as an instrument of paranoia and fear and it's seems to be working for a majority of people and I'm not saying you're one of those people Dooms just agreeing with you when you say people should take this threat of a very dangerous virus seriously.

I tend to think CDC is trying to down play it so that there is no panic yet have to continue to walk back statements. I do fear that all it takes is a few screw ups or poor judgment on the part of a few that can take an isolated situation and create a massive problem.

I agree with you that the CDC is really dropping the ball on the very real threat of Ebola becoming a huge problem.

Before they shed blood, sweat and tears against the Cowboys in Texas this weekend, the Giants were given a crash course on the Ebola virus, which has Dallas on high alert.

The players and other team staffers were given a fact sheet crafted by the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network that outline some basic facts about the virus — including risk of transmission and how to evaluate suspicious symptoms.

So… Does this mean that 80% of the stadium is going to be empty if Giants fans don't show up?

When CNN is showing this 24-7 people get spooked out. This is not an easy disease to get.

The 2 people infected in DALL were CARING for a person who had it and was gravely ill.

There are hundreds of doctors caring for those in West Africa and only a few have been infected.

Like others have stated, many people have died from the FLU since this has been talked about.

From what I understand even in Africa, the highest risk is to the caretakers and immediate family of victims. It's a terrifying disease and I never thought it would get to the States. From what I understand the first nurse is upgraded to good condition and now her boyfriend has been brought into isolation. The other nurse who STUPIDLY got on a plane.... really?! It's also not contagious until you have symptoms... which may help in a Metropolitan center - IE get thee to an ER asap. I was in Dallas this weekend and went to the State Fair, stayed at the Ritz (went into the same bathroom that Jerry had his lovely photo taken with those ho's btw) and out and about. We were diligent about washing our hands etc... but we didn't want to stop living. It deserves to be taken seriously but there's a difference between that and fear mongering. Common sense reigns - My guess is the hospital is not letting anyone know the exact details of the breach of protocol that lead to these women getting infected.
