All kidding aside, I'm honestly not sure what to make of this signing. It seems like the other moves kind of put Dallas in a good spot for not reaching in the draft while this one shored up a back-up spot but still left a big hole at the top of the depth chart. I have watched Mayowa and I just don't see him as a full-time starter in a 4-3. I don't see him being able to hold up against the run as a full-time DE.

If they don't sign anyone else then Dallas is picking a DE in the top two rounds, possibly even Bosa at #4 imo.

I won't say I like this Mayowa signing but I don't think I hate it as much as most fans will.

He has a really good motor and goes hard every snap that I have seen, so fans will warm up to him. As long as he isn't the full-time starter they will probably really like the guy.

Haven't seen any film on the kid, hopefully Mayowa will be more boom than bust for Dallas.

McClay picking out the diamonds in the rough i see.

He will become part of our D-line rotation and I am OK with that. Hopefully what they see in him comes to fruition. And yes we will be drafting a DL in at least one of the first 3 rounds. It should be interesting to see if they want Bosa or Ramsey at #4 if they stay there. I am OK with either honestly.

Oh, I think replacing Hardy is still the No. 1 priority and I'm pretty sure Dallas plans to use that first-round pick to do it. I don't think Mayowa alters that plan.

The Raiders have tons of cap room. Yet decline to match the Cowboys offer.

Doesn't say much about the player.

Not really. They have a star player in front of him and they can get a backup cheaper. Where here I think he will get plenty of reps and as much as people like to bash the money it's not really out of line for a free agent.

I like this signing. We get a young end on the rise instead of grabbing an old end like Long on the decline.

The main concern is that Mayowa's rise won't be more than it has been while a player like Long has at least shown what his best looks like, but if the pro personnel department has done it's job we could have a young contributor who brings more to the table than any of the aging vets we could have gotten.

Now, I don't think we should rely on Mayowa to be anything more than Mincey's replacement, but as Mincey's replacement, I like the move.

240 lbs.

More like a speed rusher, rotated on nickel and dime packages with Gregory when he gets back.

May even try the Bruce Irvin (Seattle days) thing with him as he did play for Seattle and probably knows that type of package.

Who Is Benson Mayowa? A Member of the Dallas Cowboys

Mostly posting this for the following info...

Maybe paying Mayowa $8.25 million for three years is excessive, or maybe we need to trust personnel guru Will McClay and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who are largely in charge of these sorts of calls. Here's hoping that Dallas has used free agency in a way that is about finding value, and that its involvement in risk and projection works out for the host of Cowboys who have re-upped, along with defensive tackle Cedric Thornton and now running back Alfred Morris. ... and Benson Mayowa, too, even though we admit when we ask the question "Who Is Benson Mayowa?'' it takes a bit of digging and a bit of projection to see the past and the future.

Says nothing whatsoever to me. Love that way of thinking. Teams in general and especially teams like the Raiders let go of young talent all the time. That's why they are the Raiders. Took a shot on a kid who according to some is full of potential. How in the world is this bad???? Stoppp the madness

Raiders and seahawks listed him at 252 on their rosters and the last year with the seahawks, Pete Carroll claimed he had gained 15 pounds getting him in the 260s.

It's because (IMO) Mack is going to get the largest contract ever for defensive player soon and they (the Raiders) are looking at refortifying the position through the draft and save some coin.
Good thinking on Mack getting a monster contract down the road and not only Mack, but if Cooper and Carr keep up their high level of play they too will be in line for a huge contract extension.

I'm not sure that weight is correct. Some have reported that he's up around 260.

Wouldn't mind Crawford coming back to compete for a spot. It's more likely that we'll have to carry five ends because of Gregory's suspension (although he won't count for the first four weeks). Right now, we've got Lawrence, Mayowa and Gregory ... unless anyone is counting on Russell or Mike McAdoo.
