I usually get these "type" of sunglasses because I do a lot of outdoor and watersport activities. Experience has taught me that metal framed and cheaply made sunglasses break easily when being exposed to children, yard work and face-first introdduction to the ground/water. I scratched up or broke seven pairs one year before I went with a sporting style of sunglasses that lasted me for almost three years.

Having said that, Oakleys can be quite overpriced due to the name. They last and they are polarized (which is essential for ocean use), but, there are other options out there that can be had for cheaper prices.

I would suggest that if you like those styles but hate the price, you should look at Arnette. Very similar because the company was started by someone from Oakley, but usually 30% to 40% cheaper than their Oakley counterparts.

I had some Oakley M-Frames years ago, and wouldn't mind having another pair. I had them for years, and ended up selling them to a friend so I could get a new pair. After losing those, I ended up with a series of cheapo glasses bought from Target, and various other places. I currently have a pair of knockoff oakleys that I found, but the frames are falling apart, and the tint on the lenses are coming off, so I'm looking for new glasses.

I was at the Oakley store a few weeks ago, and you can have them custom made in the store while you wait, which is cool. Now I have to figure out if I want the black frame, nose, and ear pieces, or get one with Cowboys colors.

Same as mine, but I have to replace them soon. I dropped them and cracked the right lens near the screw.

Go to RB's website and contact customer support. They'll give you a RA # and you can send them in. They'll replace and repair the lenses/frame if need be for next to nothing. I've had pairs of RB's that were 8, 10, 12 years old, that needed lenses replaced etc and they did it no questions asked.

To the OP: What makes name-brand sunglasses worth the $$$, is the more the quality of the lenses than it is the frames IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, Ray-Ban will replace lenses for free, lifetime warranty.

What do you think of Ray Ban Aviators?

Baller glasses for ballers. My next pair will be Ray Ban polarized aviators.

in general whenever I see someone acting like an *******, they are wearing Oakley sunglasses. That doesn't mean all Oakley wearers are *******s. But it sure seems to increase the odds.

I have the oakley straight jacket, fishing specific glasses.

best glasses I've ever owned, bar none. I can't imagine using anything else really. Worth every penny, and I'm pretty damn cheap.

Can look nice, but a lot of people can't pull them off (myself included).

Nothing personal Bobby, but when your face is the length and width of a French baguette, there's not a sunglasses frame known to man that's gonna make you look all that great.

I love how the style of sunglasses worn by rednecks and nascar types is almost always about 5-6 years behind the trends of pop culture.

I remember when I was working at a WRV surf shop in the Outer Banks years ago I prided myself on being able to outsell any other employee. Glasses and watches were particularly easy, unless you were trying to sell something current to a Nascar fan....they just wouldn't have it. They knew exactly what they wanted....Oakley Razor Blades. The same glasses that were created eight years before, and hadn't been seen inside city limits of any city with a population of more than 5,000 in five years.

My god. What hideous glasses.

Just now are they starting to get to their Straight Jacket phase, and their men's "white" glasses phase is clicking on all cylinders too....both of which were popular among wannabe's and MTV Cribs fans five years ago...

Anyone else notice that "sports glasses", unless they're actually goggles, are usually found on the fattest people?

I can understand the need for polarization....but "sports glasses"? Cmon. How is rockin' those sports glasses to the mall necessary? I'll let it slide at the beach, because we all know how easy it is for a beach volleyball game to spontaneously happen right before your well protected, fully wrapped eyes...

Lmao....no offense intended here. It's just funny to me.

Personally, I think the whole Aviator craze is ridiculous.

To be fair I don't lose expensive sunglasses. I have been wearing Ray Bans since around 1987 and I like them so much I take care of them. This was a fluke accident and I have had them for at least 3 years. I have got my money's worth out of them.
