If Jerry was really trying to find another small college QB like Tony, I wish he would have picked up Garoppolo. Vaughan looks like McGee II, I'm afraid.

Aw yes, the old Vaughn v. Garoppolo debate. Certainly an apt comparison.

if they are hiding showers on the PS does that mean they see something in him?

He needs work, but he looks an order of magnitude more comfortable back there than Vaughn does. Again, that doesn't mean he doesn't suck, but at least he looks like it's not too big for him. Vaughn just looks extremely uncomfortable to me.

i have to agree. he does seem more confident than Vaughn. Vaughn just seems timid but he was knocking some down close to the end of the game. would there be a tactical reason to keep a read-option quarterback (showers) on the PS as opposed to a pocket passer? or does it just come down to who seems more comfortable? because im not sure either QB really gave a clear distinctive performance over the other. it seems a lot of folks are ify about either QB sticking around.

i miss Kitna.

Vaughn doesn't have a knack for sensing the pass rush coming and I doubt it's something he'll ever have. Most of the time it's too late once he realizes it's coming. Even if he does, he's extremely slow in moving and freezes in a manner reminiscent of the days of Drew Bledsoe. His accuracy leaves a lot to be desired as well. He just doesn't strike me as one who will ever be a reliable backup, much less a starter. I wish I could say otherwise. Showers seems to have more upside but if he could be a starter is questionable. Maybe he could backup at best.

I think we absolutely know what we have in Vaughn and it ain't much. Showers still has a sort of "Blind Date" factor going for it. Could really be good or could be a one and done, where you say you have to cut your grandmothers grass early the next morning so you need to cut the night short, and plant one on her cheek and run like hell.

I feel for the other "bubble" players that didn't get a chance to showcase any skills because management wanted to hide Showers, which was so blatant it will probably have the opposite effect.

I mean is showers even really worth trying to stash? Is he really irreplaceable?

So, Vaughan played the whole night. Clear skies, no sign of Showers. What did you think of Vaughan? And do you suppose Showers didn't play in order to make it easier to stash him on the practice squad?

Either Showers made the team, or they're trying to stash him on the practice squad.

Just do what it takes to pry Taylor Heinicke from the Vikings and it will be like having Romo for another 10-12 years. If he sat behind Romo for a few years, it would be a seemless transition and nothing on offense would have to change for the new QB. I watched him for three years at ODU and it was like watching the early Romo play QB every Saturday.

I feel like when Vaughn was told he would start the entire game, it was good indication they like enough of Showers to try and hide him on practice squad. So this game was his last chance to show the Cowboys brass that he is worth keeping as a 3rd qb. Other than a couple medium throws, most of his passes were again check down types, and if it wasn't for some nice runs by Escobar and the young receivers, they would have been 3 and out more often. When your NFL life is on the line, I would have expected him to attack a bit more and show his arm strength. Playing it safe as a third qb is playing yourself off a roster. The 2nd guy needs to keep it safe and clean, the 3rd qb should show potential. I didn't see it. I'd much rather keep a Ben Bishop or Ryan Russell on the team than this guy

I agree. Because if not, then they could've just released Showers with the first round of cuts.
