Showers is going on the P-S. Vaughn will be cut. He may find the P-S for another team.

I liked what I saw out of Vaughn in his first season and in the first game against the Chargers.

I feel for him a bit because he didn't get much help and it clearly shook his confidence. And then you get into pressing to make plays and try to impress the coaching staff.

The problem for Vaughn is that he didn't show noticeable enough improvement from last year. And supposedly it showed up in practice.

I like Showers' athleticism and arm strength, but I see little in the way of him having refined skill of playing the QB position. I know it's nice and all that he played ST and that's the right kind of attitude. I don't have a problem with trying to put him on the P-S because it's worth a shot, but I just don't expect much from him in the future.

My prediction is we'll be discussing adding one of the cut QBs around the league very soon. Showers is the practice squad guy this year, and there is no #3 on the roster - yet. Or not. Likely just trash to sift through.

At least one Minnesota roster prediction has Minnesota cutting Taylor Heinicke. If that is going to happen, I would love to see Jerry pick him up, or even throw them a conditional pick and plug him in for Vaughan.

So, Vaughan played the whole night. Clear skies, no sign of Showers. What did you think of Vaughan? And do you suppose Showers didn't play in order to make it easier to stash him on the practice squad?

I don't think we were trying to hide Showers. He hasn't done enough to prove worth hiding.

I think we were trying to see if we want to continue the Vaughan project (and yes, it is a project). I think the answer to that has to be, not on the 53-man roster.

if they are hiding showers on the PS does that mean they see something in him?

They see athleticism and a guy who can play special teams and be the teams emergency QB he has some versatility.

With Romo aging the Cowboys have to stop wasting time trying to develop these undrafted developmental projects that are extreme longshots and use a 2nd or 3rd rounder on a solid prospect who has a decent shot at developing into a good backup and possibly Romo's successor. If the Cowboys keep fooling around with scrubs every summer and something unexpected happens with Romo like with Aikman years ago they're going to be stuck without a viable QB. Eventually Romo is going to start declining or his health won't allow him to continue so the Cowboys need to start getting serious and draft a solid prospect.

Heinicke would even please the Weeden defenders, since Heinicke is coming from a similar offense. But this kid is loved by Vikes staff, starting to doubt he becomes available. May have to trade for him. He is young so a draft pick should not be rued. And if we are serious contenders NOW, then why not stock the team up now instead of hording end of the round draft picks? Let's improve talent at free safety, back up QB and another RB THIS season.

it seems pretty clear that showers is gone. My guess is that lSt night was an audition for vaughan to make the ps.

Bryan Broaddus disagrees. He said the team knows what it has in Showers and didn't want to let him showcase it for everyone else last night.

So other teams aren't watching Dallas.....this is the NFL, other teams aren't blind. (said the same thing about Matt Moore) Dallas knows this kid has something, hiding him for the last game had a reverse effect, everybody knows.

I swear to God to all you self imposed football experts out there, while the truth is that Dallas would better off in the short and long runs with a "Raw" Showers than Brandon "well done, fried and blackened" Weeden...freaking geniuses.

So get ready, because you can't fix stupid.

I don't think its time to do that just yet. I think Romo has this year and 3 more maybe 4.. so if we go get someone in this draft, he sits for almost his entire Rookie contract and then we have to pay decent money for a very green QB. I think that if something falls to them, of course they will take it but I would think the plan would be to draft Romo's successor not this coming draft but the next. In the meantime, you fill the void with a serviceable Vet back up (I don't think we have that at the moment) and try your luck with a few UDFA and see if you strike gold again.

Both Vaughan and Showers are going to be on the PS.

Can't think of any reason to do both the PS. Showers brings something to the table, He would be good to practice against for mobile QB teams we play. Also might develop into more of a QB. Vaughn has shown us what he's got, which is not much and no one is picking him up. If they need him, he is just a phone call away anyway.

We have no idea how long Romo has the end could come at any time we found that out with Aikman. It may take a couple of seasons to develop a solid prospect into a solid backup QB. You can't just wait until Romo shows signs of decline before you start seriously looking for his successor because you may end up with a Brandon Weeden or Mark Sanchez as your starter. It's not like if you draft a QB they're going to pan out you may have some misses before you land a quality starter. Hell, it can take decades to find a franchise QB just look at Cleveland and Washington. The Cowboys got extremely lucking hitting on Romo because had they not they could still be looking for a QB.

Somewho looks more like Tony Romo did as a rookie than anyone in the NFL. Though a little more raw, he's also athletically superior. He has the same quicks in the pocket, faster and a stronger arm.

It's what I was told. Linnehan really likes Showers.

If Jerry was really trying to find another small college QB like Tony, I wish he would have picked up Garoppolo. Vaughan looks like McGee II, I'm afraid.

Garoppolo was a 2nd round pick. Jerry wants another Romo for free.
