History of playoff appearances since 1996 following the last Lombardi:

1996-Switzer
1998-Chan Gailey
1999-Chan Gailey
2003-Bill Parcells
2006-Bill Parcells
2007-Wade Phillips
2009-Wade Phillips

*(real gap in team successes)

2014-Jason Garrett
2016-Jason Garrett
2018-Jason Garrett
2021-Mike McCarthy
2022-Mike McCarthy

That is the playoff years.

Switzer had 3 playoff seasons in 4 seasons.
Chan Gailey had 2 playoff seasons in 2 seasons.
Dave Campo no playoff seasons in 3 seasons.
Bill Parcells 2 playoff seasons in 4 seasons.
Wade Phillips 2 playoff seasons in 4 seasons.
Jason Garrett 3 playoff seasons in 10 seasons.
Mike McCarthy 2 playoff seasons in 3 seasons.

That are the facts of being good enough to make a play off in a season. Players and coaching involved...now starts the road in arriving at a real value of the current team.

Today's team is not chained to the past record of history involved. They live in the now...discussion starts from those facts.

Don't chain another fan to personal disappointments that now live in the past.

Even the coaching under Jason Garrett had improved to going into the playoffs 3 of his 6 seasons.

Jerry Jones was improving his team via greatly improving his scouting department; Stephen managing cap directions; and coach that able to do just that - coach.
Yes, Jerry has made mistakes, but he has returned the Dallas Cowboys have the real chance now, of making to the Super Bowl as when he did it Jimmy Johnson.
He gives function to the organization, but he again signs checks and checks into what is going on as he should. Team functions is gone over and led by staff and players on the carpet. And players are evaluated by scouts with directions by the coaching staff of what they are looking for.

These Cowboys are on the footing right now, that their destiny is now in the hands of them and how they handle the game. Jerry has fully given them opportunity once again. Jerry is again out of the picture. It's on the team now.

In those last six games with Garrett, there were 13, 12, and 10 win seasons and with controversy on both Green Bay wins. 12 wins in the past two years. This season is the 10th season of that progression in the Dallas Cowboys.

Repeat wins in the NFC East is tough and very few teams currently repeat Super Bowl wins consecutively as well.

This part of the post should instead read:

Yes, Jerry has made mistakes, but he has returned the Dallas Cowboys to having a real chance now of making it to the Super Bowl. Just like when Jimmy Johnson did it for the Dynasty Era.

He gives opportunity to the organization, but he again signs checks and checks into what is going on as he should. Team functions are gone over and done by staff and players on the carpet. Players and new comers are evaluated by scouts with directions by the coaching staff as to what they are looking for.

These Cowboys are on the footing right now, that their destiny is now in their own hands and how they handle the game. Jerry has fully given them opportunity once again. Jerry is now out of the picture.

It's on the team now.

Garrett finished his Cowboys tenure with an 85–67 record. He was 2–3 in the playoffs, never advancing past the divisional round.

The last five season contract was the hurdle for both Jason and the team. But the team continued to build up to the pandemic start.

First Green Bay loss, a last second field goal. 34-32.

Second Green Bay loss...Dallas held a lead in the second half, but after losing the lead due to a late Aaron Rodgers touchdown pass, had a potentially game-winning catch by Dez Bryant overturned in official replay, therefore sealing a 26–21 defeat to Green Bay.

As to Garrett...

While it’s nearly impossible to win in the NFL without the offensive line unit being one of the best, it’s also nearly impossible to not win much of anything when you own one of the league's best units for nearly a decade. The window for success in the NFL closes quickly — unless your team has Tom Brady and Bill Belichick — and you must strike while the iron is hot. The Cowboys during the last half of the 2010s, unfortunately, are an example of a team that wasted its talent, especially up front.

From 2014 to 2017, Dallas owned the unquestioned best offensive line in football, featuring multiple future Hall of Famers, All-Pros and Pro Bowlers. The Cowboys dominated the league in both pass protection, ranking in the top two in 2014 and 2015 by Pro Football Focus, and run blocking, where they mashed opposing defenses. In the simplest of terms, they did not finish outside the top five in yards per carry in those four seasons.

Dallas' rushing DVOA ranked in the top three for three of those four seasons, while ranking 10th in the fourth campaign.

According to Football Outsiders' Adjusted Line Yards metric, which is directly attributed to the big fellas up front, the Cowboys did not finish outside the top six in those four seasons. From 2014 to 2017, Dallas owned the unquestioned best offensive line in football, featuring multiple future Hall of Famers, All-Pros and Pro Bowlers.

That would not help that comment in a multiple of languages to team meetings one was some how allowed into to listen. How long did you play?

I know...try more Ranch Dressing on your dish. Can you even cook?
Haven't played since my teens, which was a very long time ago.

And according to my wife, I am a great cook! (But she could be saying that because she hates cooking)

Sorry my posts are not as colorful as yours, I guess my vocabulary is much more limited than yours.

Have a wonderful day my colorful friend!

Stats are useful as to seeing directions as well as seeing weaknesses already discovered with the same tools used by other teams. Weaknesses need real and adjustable directions to change.

Failures that don't but fall in a short ranged window and can be solved in a single or even simple actions are relative in a view. Those should not be ignored.
That part is either team building or team improving. One of the most important parts is ability to judge talent on and that can be added to a team. At present, that quality is every inch as good as it was Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones started the path to a Dynasty. Once a dynasty is derailed, returning to that is very tough to return to that status. Today's NFL is that tough to overcome.

Once there is talent, then the design of a plan of attack for both sides of the ball, becomes the directional element that carries a team into confrontations/games. That then becomes a matter of adjustments and in game plans to derail an opponent. That requires experience and accumulated successes on both the coaching levels as well as in the team roster. Success has to grow...and that is a fact. During the Dynasty as well as now.

Insulting the team has no real and excusable place in this picture right now...another fact.

The role of a fan is to help the team in it's own motivation for their own sacrificing, injuries, and sweat equity in giving back to those fans. It's not time to bring out a Hero Worship rather than just judging what is currently on the team's plate. Not even being able to identify progression points and identifying true team needs as they are in fact being developed through those points of progress. At least give honesty a chance here.

Good in a team still has a progression to it. The Dallas Cowboys have that right here and now.

Instead of seeing where his team is today, using past glory stereotypes to beat the head of a simple fan is a poor excuse for a fan. If one wishes to truly own glory of the team's...buy one then.

Otherwise be a valid fan and share the experience of being a fan.

A fan should both love the sport as it is played, as well as back his team through thick and thin.

Too many assume non-authorized enforcement directed at insult of fans. If a fan is incorrect, then discuss on facts, not on insulted stereotype outside of a reasonable discussion. Not everyone has depth of historical knowledge. Help to educate, not with a brow beating attitude. Then, YOU, aren't a fan, but a self appointed hindrance to new fans and real knowledge.

This team has a very good staff of coaches. It has a great scouting department for both the draft and possible free agents. There is great communications, as well as time spent in discussion about both, the team and opponents. Knowledge of both are at a very high level now.

Cap management is a very important piece of a team's stability and growth.

Stephen and the managing elements have invested in top shelf statistical staff as well kept the team view fully up front. That is about to pay great dividends on both on field leadership as well as top talent in the NFL. This includes the most team changing positions...offensive tackle, defensive end, cornerback, receiver, and quarterback.

All of these have been evaluated as top shelf and and everyone will cost at NFL high levels. That's the cost of the NFL today. But also good management by the Cowboys.

Thanks to you both, Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones...you have done us fans good, here and now.

That same Jerry Jones has always been loyal to his players. He has given them protections of their needs and also gave them opportunity to earn their own place and achieve in a very unstable environment. Football isn't easy, but it is rewarding for a fan.

Leave sentiments on that level...of being a fan.

Truly appreciate all the processes that are actually necessary in today's environment. The Cowboys are doing needed tasks as well as have earned fan respect as well...who at least keep up with their with more than just a bad attitude and share shame.

At least be a true fan, not blind, but help their motivations. Be a real fan! :starspin:

I'm glad you are a fan. I was told as a youth...if one starts something, don't quit. That gets one into habit of quitting. If one starts something with real value, stay with it. And thanks for being a fan! Go Cowboys!! :starspin:

On current offensive line status:

Nick Eatman: Big difference between "can" and "will." Obviously, we won't really know that until we get later in the season and let's see the health of these tackles - Steele and Tyron Smith. But "can" they be elite again? They can, if Tyron Smith can somehow stay relatively healthy. He doesn't have to be perfect - not sure he'll ever be that again in his career - but he's still pretty good even when he's banged up. Also, if Steele can make a full recovery, that is a big step in the right direction. I think Tyler Smith is ready to become a star and I still think left guard is his best spot because of his unreal strength. I can't wait to see him and Mazi Smith battle in the 1-on-1 drills at camp. Things have to go right, something that didn't really happen a lot last year, but yes, this O-line has potential to be really good again.

The team has DCC for that rah rah stuff...and for blindly backing Jerry and son.. True fans should be able to give constructive criticism of the team based on their repeated failures and weaknesses ....not just bow and glorify their successes. This ostrich approach to following a team by sticking your head in the sand and willing to only hear people on your side of this mess is really unbecoming and very disingenuous. Stick up for what you really think, and stop hiding behind this holier than thou because we don't complain crap. Fans come in all shapes and sizes, no cookie cutter here. Join the real world, or maybe even a forum who issues you rose colored glasses when you sign up. Your choice.

You are right about one thing, OUR Dallas Cowboys. :flagwave:

I'm a long time as a fan...since they started their journey.

If you feel like throwing up, that is all on your own taste. Handle it then...

if Dak was as good as you claim that he is, you wouldn’t have the need to sit here and compose an entire PhD thesis to defend him. He’s a below average qb who lucked into a pretty good situation - from having a reasonably talented team to coming into the league at a time when the NFC East was on a downward trajectory in terms of opponents within the division.
