The two apparent leading candidates to become the next OC for the Cowboys are the Rams TE coach Thomas Brown and Carolina’s former assistant Head Coach Jeff Nixon.

Here are some comparisons between the two:
THOMAS BROWN
  • Age: 36
  • Current position- TE Coach/Assistant Head Coach for the Rams.
  • Former OC at Univ. Of Miami in Florida.
  • Played college football at Univ of Georgia as a RB
  • Played 3 years in the NFL for Atl and Cleveland 2008-10.
I like the fact that Brown is young and has been on Sean McVay’s staff and has studied that offense- one of the most modern and innovative offenses in the league. Their passing game is the kind of upgrade we need with our passing game and route trees.

JEFF NIXON
  • Age: 48
  • Most Recent Position: Assistant HC for Carolina 2020-22
  • Has been a WR/RB coach for the eagles, a RB coach for the dolphins and a TE coach for the niners.
  • Former Co-OC at Baylor under Matt Rhule
  • Played college football at Penn State and West Virginia. Did not play in the NFL.
Nixon has had more experience as a coach. I’m not as familiar with the offensive philosophies he has been aligned with. He’s coached under NFL HCs Tony Sparano, Todd Bowles, Jim Harbaugh and Matt Rhule.

Both of these coaches have excellent backgrounds. It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys have anyone else on the radar.

Interested in the Rams coach solely because his experience with McVay. Hard to get excited about a coach who came from the Panthers. In any case, I'm encouraged that we're looking outside the sphere for up and coming candidates.

To suggest that these two candidates are the leading candidates is a stretch. They’re two minority candidates that probably were interviewed to suffice the Rooney rule. Chances are some clown inside the building will get the job. IE Brian Schottenheimer or somebody else

Seems like he needs an OC that helps teach what he likes and wants to do. Don’t know if any of his old disciples are left out there.

You'd have to be a complete moron to want to replace Kellen Moore with either of these candidates.

But the Cowboys aren't looking for a real OC. Just someone to take orders from McCarthy in his offense.

You don't know that.......hell, I'm sure he could have found an in-house coach if his only interest in minority candidates was to suffice the Rooney rule.
Based on the history of how this franchise operates, I’m pretty confident in my take. This team doesn’t go out of its way to change. They’re pretty good at sticking w the status quo.

Exactly. Was Demeco Ryans a Rooney Rule candidate for DC when he had only been coaching for four years? The league talks and good prospects are known

May sound crazy but I actually agree with this.
I don't know what's crazy about it. The Owner is on record that the offense will be McCarthy's west coast scheme next year. His Green Bay offense and McCarthy will call the plays. So any OC hire will be in name only since they won't be able to run or call their own offense.

That and the Rooney Rule would explain these two candidates being so weak.

Greg Roman was the oc with the 49ers at the same time. Want to fix the run game hire him!
haven't heard his name connected to us.
he's on my "wish-list".
i'm a fan of what roman did in baltimore.
wonder if he'll be a candidate.

I just don't think interviewing the two candidates has anything to do with the Rooney Rule. I do agree he's not looking for an experienced/season OC.
