Boy you guys have no sense of humor. I think it's awesome. Nice marketing ploy, he will make some cash.

Ughhhhhh, no. That, pretty much sounds stupid too! Especially since it's WRONG!

Coaches and players call each other like that all the time.

"alright alright good catch eight five I got you next time"

The idea is idiotic to begin with but saying ochenta y cinco sounds even worse.

How come nobody's ever mentioned to Chad, that the #85 in Spanish is "ochenta y cinco"?

What he's doing, is the equivalent of a Mexican soccer player putting "eight five" on his jersey as his name.

Actually, it started with a NFLN commercial where a little camera with wings goes around the NFL "world" and at the end you hear the voices sing "Ocho Cincooooo".

Actually they both sound stupid. But hey whatever he wants to call himself is ok with me but many people will laugh. Guess he knows that, huh.

Yea, I'm aware of all that. It still makes him look moronic IMO. And frankly, if I were a fan of the NFL with Spanish heritage, I'd be slightly insulted.

It has nothing to do with being Hispanic, and he didn't give himself the nickname.

As an English speaking person (I assume), are you slightly insulted when NFL players separate the numbers in English? i.e. calling himself eight-five instead of eighty five.

Because it's the exact same thing. And if you ARE, in fact, insulted...maybe you need to loosen up a bit.

If the Bengals had a real sense of humor they'd trade him to San Diego. Antonio Gates is #85. Ocho Cinco would be Ocho Seis or Ocho Cuatro.

Actually pissant, I genuinely could give a flying-f what your, or anyone's "opinion" is, or if you "agree" or no. Mainly because, that's all my post was meant as, "MY" opinion.

Really? Where are they?

EDIT: Here, I'll save you the embarrassment.

The National Football League Players’ Association (the "NFLPA"), the labor union of NFL players, is one of the weakest in all of professional sports. NFL players receive a lower percentage of revenue than do players in the NBA. Unlike NBA players, players in the NFL do not receive a cut from the sale of their jerseys.

Its unconventional.

Big picture = smart.

Outside the box.

Thank you.

I dont know why so many of you are against the idea. I love it. Its him basically saying "I dont give a F" and changing his name to do what he wants when the NFL was trying to tell him no.

I love it. And I love me some Chad Johnson. Excuse me. Chad Ocho Cinco.

I doubt it, because if you were Latino, you wouldn't be so uptight to begin with.

Any writer, play-by-play announcer, sports anchor, that insists on calling him by the old name has no sense of humor.

Agree whole heatedly. People who are going crazy over this need to lighten up. Football is a game, you're supposed to have fun with it.
