Off-season Grade Pre-Draft

Damn your really upset we dropped your boy 88

We dropped a top 75 WR who happened to have a top 5 WR contract.
Replacment? A similar top 75 WR who is paid accordingly

The only spot I have a problem with is with LB... If we would grab Bowman and plug and play along with either E.Thomas/1tech I would give this offseason an A.
But until then it is a B-

Except he isn’t a top 5 paid WR.
He’ wasnt even top 10.

Don’t bring up 16. That’s equivalent to saying Kaepernick knelt because he hated veterans and the flag. Dez would’ve made 12.5 mil this season.
That puts him at the 13th position for WR average salary. Half of the players making as much or more than him produced less last season in some capacity either yards, catches, TDs or both.

If you wanna claim he was making 16, then don’t forget the 8 romo is still making...

Right on

His comps last year were

DAdams
SDiggs
CKupp
DFunchess
JJ Schuster
AJeffrey

all pretty darn good WRs

WEll......they will miss Hitchens...you could argue they upgraded their team with players that actually fit their system now. You can call it "dumbing down" if you want.

Was a C, no better or worse, until they released the #1WR and now it's a D. And that move will affect the draft grade and mine will start with a D on day 1 if they draft a WR.

And the grades are not based on future projections or effects. Like the brain trust, I only think about the upcoming season.

I have to say that the 2018 Off-season has been a predictable serving of the same old thing

We are stuck with Jason Garrett and Rod Marinelli and they are stuck in the 90's

We are dumbing down the Offense to help our young QB and putting all the marbles into Zeke's dime bag

First the losses: over 70 games started
Dez
Hitchens
OScan
Cooper
AMorris
Mayowa
KSmith

plus BButler, BeneB, Wilber, Durant, WR coach, LB coach

Next the signings: a whole big jug of JAGs
AHurns- WR2 from Jax....... Dez wannabe
DThompson- WR4 .....speed guy
Cam Fleming- Swing OT........average at best
JOlawale- FB with hands
Kony Ealy- 4th team in a year
Joe Thomas- not the LT
MMartin- who?

Retained: expensive
DLawrence
D Irving
BPrice
Looney
LD Ladouceur

Overall Grade- D
The Draft better be excellent after another season of dumpster diving and passing on any stars or starters

We could have had Suh and Mathieu and Richardson and Crabtree and PBrown and Logan and TBoston and Bowman

IMHO, we improved our depth on the OL, Ealy will be a nice rotational piece on the DL, and we upgraded at FB, all without spending unnecessarily. Many of the people moaning about Dallas not making a big splash in FA are the same people that used to complain about Jerry's overspending riverboat gambler.

My offseason grade hovers some where between "B-" and "C+". If they have a draft of "B-" or better, it COULD mean a better season than last year.

How did I guess.
Hurns' production is equal to Dez' the past 3 years and he is younger and cheaper.
Butler was too inconsistent and is easily offset.
Martin has had a better career than Cooper.
Fleming is much better than Green or Bell.
Ealy is an upgrade on Mayowa.
Scandrick is addition by subtraction, more snaps for Lewis and Brown.
Hitchens brought run D but was iffy in pass defense, Thomas is the opposite.
At worse we covered our losses and I would say we improved in most areas.

We haven't replaced Dez, Hitch or Cooper

BJones replaces OScan but now we have a giant hole at FS

Fleming looks like a good sign for SwT
Kony=Mayowa
DThompson adds some speed

but all in all we went backwards for no good reason

Dez drew double teams. Will Hurns do the same?

That's what people keep forgetting (or intentionally ignoring). Say what you will about his production but it was shown time and again that defensive coaches paid extra attention to Dez. That lack of extra attention going forward makes things harder on everyone else who remains.

You cannot simply ignore that fact.

Those are some great Blue Rose colored glasses your Zebra is wearing

I actually disagree with every one of your bullet points

I figure min 4 min and 7 max and i fear that's what this team will produce come next season...

How does a rebuilding team have a minimum of 4 wins? Please explain

7 wins isnt rebuilding. Thats winnins nearly half of your games, I.E. competitive

Yeah but we had a giant hole at free safety last year. We had a giant hole at guard last year. Hurns is what Dez is in 2018. Its just what it is. Fleming has Super Bowl experience as a tackle. As opposed to what Chaz Green had.....Kony Ealy is a depth guy. Thompson is Brice Butler. I like what Dez was but I can't sit here and say Hurns can't do what he can do. Scandrick was replaced last season.

That is a lie

BJones is an above average FS just not a star
Cooper did fine at LG last year

Hurns has never been close to what Dez was or is

Guess it is a good thing I don't value your opinions on player evaluation then. Hurns is every bit as good as 2017 Dez. Martin is not a step back from Cooper. Seriously the only player that we have not offset is Hitchens, a player most fans have been calling a JAG since we drafted him.

Right now, a C.

Add Earl Thomas, trade up and get Vea or Nelson, and sign Bowman, and it'll be an A.

Only loss I regret is Hitchens.

If Dak isn't the guy, none of this even matters anyway.
Yeah, you have to take into account cap room added.
But then, if some (or most?) of the saving isn't used this year, maybe subtract some.

The same crowd that was upset when we let “solid” players like Carr, Mo, and Wilcox go.
We then turned around and upgraded all three of them for half the price

What was his cap hit.

Thats all I care about because it is what binds us from making moves to actually add pieces to a team that has been stuck in a hump

I dont understand.... I was told conflicitng reports that Dez and Beasley both were drawing these mythical double teams that caused Dak to regress...

Which is it? Were they bracket covering two WRs while running an 8 man box on Zeke?
