The highlight of the practice came from none other than Brandin Cooks, who showed off his speed to beat double coverage on a go route for a 60-yard. Dak Prescott hit Cooks in stride for the score and the facility erupted in celebration.

Video recording isn't permitted, but The Athletic's Jon Machota caught four photos of the deep touchdown in motion. See link.

Cowboys DC Dan Quinn on CB Stephon Gilmore: “When we (traded for him), I bet I got 10-12 calls or texts saying, ‘DQ, this is your kind of guy. You’re gonna love this guy.’ That told me a lot. And then in the first interaction, just knowing how hard he works at it and then seeing the connection with (Trevon Diggs) to start and then with some others, that was a big deal for me. (It says), ‘Not only do I have all this knowledge, but I’m willing to share that wisdom.’ That’s a really important thing for coaches to do, but also for veteran ball players to do if they have that ability to share.”

Finally, Cowboys first-round pick Mazi Smith is starting to show off his ungodly strength. OTAs and minicamp don't allow for interior defenders to show off their skillset given only limited contact is permitted. Despite that, Smith has drawn rave reviews from teammates and coaches, including new DT partner Johnathan Hankins, who called the rookie one of the strongest players on the team.

That would be back to back years where our blue chip is freakishly strong. Both selections being in the trenches as well. It's a pattern I'd love to continue.

I'm more concerned with next year. Show me when it really counts.

th
Every game counts, the way it works is, the more you win the greater the chance to get in the playoffs. I guess you live for 1 game then, pretty sad.

Can I get the rookie Johnson, Turpin, and Cooks on 1 pass play?
I am confused. I know you are talking about WRs, so when you mentioned "Johnson", I can't find anyone with the last name "Johnson" on the Cowboys roster.

Are you referring to Tyler Johnson, the speedy ex-WR of the Buccaneers? If so, I heard he signed last month as a free agent with the L.A. Rams.

No. His point is 100% valid actually. You want to win 12 games every year in the regular season or do you want some real playoff advancement and possibly even a Championship? Of the two, the former is the sadder scenario in my book

While I would be very surprised if he were to make the 53, Tyron Johnson was signed after Callaway was cut and ran his 40 in 4.36. I think the posters point was about getting more speed on the field.

Aaah, it's "Tyron" Johnson. My bad. I got him mixed up with "Tyler" Johnson who recently signed with the Rams. They both have similar names, similar size, similar speed, etc. My worry with Tyron is how the Cowboys are now his 6th team since he started the league in 2019 with the Texans. He has played for the Texans, Bengals, Jaguars and Raiders. The 49ers signed him early this 2023 year but cut him a few months later, hence why he became available for our Cowboys. I hope Tyron Johnson finally settles down and shows the Cowboys he was worth the pickup. He has some potential, especially his 4.36 deep speed.

I feel like I buy this hype every year, but it does seem like we lucked out with Gilmore and Cooks. Two very good and cheap free agents that were probably underrated only because of the quality of the teams they recently played with.

Neither was a free agent. The Cowboys traded for them.

They gave the Texans a 5th round pick (and a 6th round pick next year) for Cooks and the Colts a 5th round pick for Gilmore.

So there was no luck involved. The FO deserves a ton of credit for making these moves happen.

Maybe open market is the better way to say it. Free agents if no one ponied up for them.

Yes, both seem like good moves by FO. Hopefully works out. Been burned more than once on bargain FA hype. Hoping we have same success as 2021 when key cheap veterans were big contributors.

I rather a chance at the title every year. We only have 5 titles, how long has the NFL been existence? Exactly, it aint like we was always winning it all every year. I like a consistently good team that always has a shot. But you do you.

Yes and that is EXACTLY why we want to see performances in January which again, was his point that you seemed to dispute - well I assume it was his point and it certainly is my point. You, however, seem to be the one worried about regular season performances. So, you do you. How far we have apparently fallen to be happy about regular season performance.

No his point was it only matters in January. You have to play the games first to get to January, which is my point, I want more attempts at the plate to hit that home run.
