What will determine our first pick will center on how many QBs will be taken early. It could be as many as 5 in the first 8 picks. Because the QB position has become THE most important for all teams, many teams at the top of the draft now reach for a QB who actually has 2nd or 3rd round talent.
With that in mind, if a guy like Sewell or Pitts falls to the 10th pick, you have to strongly consider taking them. Especially if your scouting dept says they have them rated as a potential lasting star and HOFer. Don’t get me wrong, we need to draft a lot of defensive help. But when it comes to drafting at the top of the talent pool, you can’t be just one sided in your thinking.
Truth is, this team has so many needs I don’t think it’s insane to draft Pitts or Sewell if they slide to us. Yes, defense is a priority but that can’t force you wear blinders when it comes to drafting priorities. If you pass on a guy that’s a future HOFer just because you’re only looking at one side of the ball, you will eventually kill your talent base.
