I don't get why people get so frustrated with the offense, and want to lay it all on that aspect of the game. We're not a juggernaut by any means, but we're not horrible either. We seem to forget that there's another team out there playing defense, and they do their jobs. But we take the mentality that, no matter what the defense is doing, as long as we call the "right" plays, we should be able to out execute the other team, and score consistently, if not at will. Well, unless you play for Denver, it doesn't work that way. Not in NO, or Chicago, or NE, or anywhere. They have good offenses, yet they have stretches - even for significant chunks if the game - where they don't do anything. They commit turnovers. They have 3 and outs. They have to punt - several times.
Talking about how the offense needs to play well for 60 minutes? No team does that (unless they're playing our defense, that is). But we feel like we need to. Why? Because we feel like we can't count on our defense. Why not? Injuries? Scheme? Lack of talent? Regardless, we give them a pass. Special teams, too. Nope, it's all on the offense, and if they struggle, they're garbage, along with the play calling and whoever's calling or checking into or out of plays. We blow a big lead against GB. Blame it all on the coach, who can't manage the game on offense. Fine, he screwed up, but he was far from the only one. Don't forget, regardless of how badly the coach failed to "protect" the defense, we still gave up 5 TDs on 5 possessions in the second half.
There are three parts to a football game - offense, defense and special teams. Yesterday, we had to lean on the latter two. That's how it should be. And not just against poor teams like Washington. We shouldn't feel like we have to qualify the points we score, and how we win. And if we're gonna say that we can't count on those parts against Philly, and it's all on the offense, then shame on us.
