Offensive adjustments needed

For as much criticism as Bledsoe receives - some of which is valid - he is not entirely to blame.

The Cowboys' offensive gameplan doesn't do him or the offensive line any favors, not to mention receiver Terrell Owens.

More "quick-hitting" plays like screen passes to the running backs or quick slant routes to Owens could really help a struggling offense and assist the offensive linemen in pass protection.

More three-step drops wouldn't hurt either.

There were definitely some protection issues and those need to be addressed, but changing the offensive tempo could help as well.

Green Bay clearly showed that a short passing game can hold a defensive attack at bay.

While this can't be their exclusive approach, I feel that adding more "quick hits" would certainly help.

i agree with this post.

i also think the reason drew and to are not on the same page is because he rode a stationary bike throughout training camp.

drew seems to have a good feel with terry and witten.

it's drew's pocket presence and mobility that i'm worried about.

You know what I hate? The quick horizontal pass to a wide receiver on the line when the cornerback is three feet away from him. Why would you even make that throw?

good post. I'm surprised there weren't more quick slants to back Philly off. No OL can consistently block that many rushers. However most teams can make teams pay for blitzing that much.

We made too many mistakes and turnovers to win.

And the shotgun.

Parcells is so full of crap when he says the shotgun is not effective because the QB has to take his eyes off the defense. That's a load of crap. If that was the case, why would so many NFL, College, and High School Teams use it throughout the game.

The fact of the matter is, they simply don't think Gurode can snap it consistently for a whole game. That, in turn, will have the QB having to pay extra close attention to the snap. If Gurode was more consistent with his snaps, the QB would not have to take have to watch it into his hands as closely.

That throw is rarely made if the CB is in press coverage. It's like a one on one running play. Get the ball out as quickly as possible and if the WR can break one tackle... which TO can do... he could be gone.

But it's usually only made when the CB is playing off. I say usually because I think you're thinking about the one Lito Sheppard almost jumped for a pick, and I don't remember how far off he was playing. IIRC he was playing off, came up to press lats and Bledsoe didn't see it until he had thrown it.

AMEN Brother!

someone should just post a picture of vanilla. nothing could describe our offense better, well also the picture that the one poster here has on bledslow as a statue, that would work well too to describe our O's problems.

The only "adjustment" we need is for the OL to block.

Bledsoe handles pressure about as well as Shaq shoots free throws, but he does just fine when he gets protection.

Whining and complaining about how he plays when he doesn't get protection is pointless. We all knew (at least most of us knew) that he was gonna need good pass protection to be successful before he ever played a game for us. No sense acting surprised about it now.

It is the reason for all the "Our season depends on the OL" threads before training camp even started.

wow that shaq-deadsloe comparision is 1 to remember. good job

Ok, lets install a brand new offense, switch QBs, fire the HC and DC, and all the other hair brained ideas I've seen on this forum because we're 2-2, have looked dominating at times, and have been out of one game this season and dominated them for a half.

There was one more point that was made before the season. Our defense needed to be very good on the road early to give a line with newcomers a chance to learn to work together ("gel" if you will). We didn't get that on Sunday.

we only looked "dominating" against a good team for 1 quarter(at the jags)

Well I disagree. We marched at will at times against Philly and I think they are a good team. We pretty much dominated Jax for a half. Yeah, we did the patented let them back in the game right before the half. I'll admit that.

We are not a good or bad team right now. The point of the post was we don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

We need to correct mistakes and we will win enough games to make the playoffs. We don't need a new car.
