Packers | Payton the current leading candidate Published Sun Jan 8 10:32:00 a.m. MT 2006
(KFFL) Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Sean Payton is the current leading candidate for the Green Bay Packers head coaching vacancy.

:bang2:

******, Payton is one of the few coaches I don't want to lose. He's had his hands tied some, but overall I think he's a good coach with time to grow yet.

I wonder if someone would be brought in from the outside to replace him, because I see no one on the offensive staff ready for a promotion for Payton's position. Sparano has his hands full, and his offensive line did no better than the previous year under coach Warhop.

Sprano gets promoted to OC I'll cry. Dude did NOTHING with Oline and only got some love for Witten's play in 2004? Geez - give him the keys.

Henning - Carolina is name to watch!

I'm liking that kind of thinking... Henning would be awesome... but wouldn't he have to be given a substantial raise... or wait until his existing contract is finished?? Wonder what his contract status is?

I hear ya. I'd like to see Sparano jettisoned myself.

I'd put money on the fact that regardless of whoever the offensive coordinator is, fans will still be unhappy with playcalling and think that Dallas is way too conservative ;)

Henning would bring mega experience and be more of a force to convince BP to let loose some....

Henning would be awesome. He's worked under Parcells in the past. But I doubt Henning is available, is he? And I doubt he'd want to leave Carolina unless we promised him something big, but who knows.

problem is any OC we might have will be controlled by BILL Percells..no way Bill will give the play calling freelly to anyone ..just watch most of the cowboys games to see him one way or the other looking or yelling at payton..it is hard to be urself with someone watching over ur shoulder

Head coach = man in charge.

OC only makes suggestions to a HC, most every HC in the league refuses plays from OCs throughout any given game.

I'd be thrilled if he left, and I'd be happy to hire a guy like Mike Sherman. When it's time for another head coach, I wouldn't mind giving Dan Henning another shot at this point in his career. I think he runs the type of offense in Carolina that would suit what Parcells is trying to build.

DeHaven, Payton, and Sparano need out...badly.

I am hopeful GB picks up Payton and ruins another NFC team.

DeHaven just flat out sucks, as does Sparano.

As far as replacements, Henning or Norv would be welcome. Bring back a kicking coach.

Hard to believe some here don't like Zimmer. Although, his D did have a hard time generating sacks without a blitz in the second half of the season (if I'm not mistaken).
