Okay, let's set the play up first. Bennett is in the backfield as the H-Back. Crayton in the slot left. Roy out wide right. I haven't used Choice yet, so he's in there in this set.

Defense is in a stadard 4-3 with the SOLB on Witten and the SS showing double on either him or Roy out wide left. The FS is playing gap contain. His first read is Crayton, his 2nd read is run. He would have to stuff the gap between Adams and Crayton if the WOLB can't get there.

.................FS............................................SS
................................LB........LB
...........CB...........DE...DT.....DT.....DE...LB.........................CB
...........84..........76...63...65...70...75....82........................11
.....................................9

................................80....23

Now let's create a mismatch. Bennett out of the backfield out wide left.

.................LB............................................SS
........................................LB
FS...........CB...........DE...DT.....DT.....DE...LB.........................CB
80...........84..........76...63...65...70...75....82........................11
........................................9

.......................................23

Bennett moves out wide left forcing the FS into coverage. Now the WOLB is forced to move into the FS Zone to provide coverage. This leaves the Defense slightly vulrnerable to a run left by Choice. If he gets around the DE he has a good 5 to 6 yards before the LB is ready.

Further if Bennett runs a curl right and picks off the LB then that leaves the FS to pick up Choice. If we send Crayton left along the LOS it takes his CB out of run support.

We can also exploit Bennett on the FS quite easily here by showing Draw and sending him on a curl left behing the LB if he reads the Draw and comes up in run support. If they pull the SOLB off Witten it means the SS has to cover him and Roy has one on one coverage on the other side and a Defense focused to their right.

I sure wish we had a Terry Glenn/Joey Galloway clone that had speed to burn. That would surely put some pressure on the defense, especially if you swap out Tashard for Felix in the backfield.

Miles Austin if he can catch the ball cleanly fits that bill.

Oh, yeah. Say we put Austin out in the "slot" position rather than Crayton.

Then we motion Bennett out past Austin. You'd have one of the FS/CB move out to cover Bennett and you have the other lined up one on one with no safety help against Miles "Pass Interference on a Post Route" Austin.

Austin is no doubt fleet of foot, however I was just thinking of how T. Glenn was both fast and quick at the same time.Where as Austin I would catergorize as fast but not quick. It just seems that someone of that nature would be a valuable asset to this team. It's just something to think about as the season progresses.

What would you think about stacking the receivers on the right side?Would that offer any adavantages/disadvantages in your opinion?

I love it ....

Whatever gets my boy Bennett one on one in the endzone with a guy 6 inches shorter than him.

Where is Galloway now? He should be fresh since he did not ply much last season.

Championship. All we need is Backup OL. our scouts were pretty good in getting a serviceable Holland last year. If they could come up with 2 more, this year, it will be totally awesome.

What would happen if it were Felix out there and we also motioned him out to the right slot? Would that make the SS commit to covering Felix, and would that leave Witten 1 on 1 with a LB?

I believe he is in NE now.

If Bennett keeps his head in the game the entire year, he is going to have one hell of a season. :eek:hboy:

All you need is a guy that the D fears can get deep on you/ and AUstin is that. So we can do it.

Thanks Hos.

I've been saying this entire offseason how pumped I am about our 2TE sets and what we're going to be able to do as far as mismatches and flexibility.

We have the potential to be as good as 2007. Maybe not as explosive, but just as good.

Big fan of these diagrams and scenarios. Too bad the strategic aspect of football is not an integral part of regular broadcasts. It would be so much more entertaining and informative.

But then they wouldn't have time to focus on what is truly important for the fans to know. You know Jessica Simpson, TO, Michael Vick, Plaxico, steroids, etc.

I would really love to see a sports news site/channel that spent their time and effort on reporting sports news and getting more in-depth with the game (like Hos did here) and completely avoided all of the tabloid stuff. Leave all that crap for ESPN and their ilk. Get a former HC like Marv Levy or someone like that to draw up plays and show how they work. Break down the O-Line, matchups, schemes, etc. Now that is something I'd like to see.

Unfortunately, the powers that be in the networks would never go for it because it would ONLY appeal to the hardcore fans and would be too boring for the casual morons who only watch sports for the "drama" of it. "Just give me the highlights and the dirt and let me go back to texting my friends."

By my recollection, John Madden is the only announcer who has ever talked strategy -- with aid from his infamous telestrator, of course -- but even he has become lax in it over the past decade.

Now, most football broadcasts seem primarily concerned with manufacturing narratives, such as the ongoing between Terrell Owens and whomever. Two years ago, I was watching a Texas A&M/University of Miami game with my wife, and they spent most of the broadcast discussing the Miami offensive coordinator and his wife, who had gone into labor at the game.

I think most fans would love it. There are some who would groan because they just want to see the hitting, not the beauty of the game.
