Offensive Line better

The offensive line the Cowboys put out there against the Giants was an improvement over last season's line. Of course, since we had one of the worst OLs in the league last year, it wouldn't have taken much to improve. Having said that, we are stronger at Center & LG. When Winters starts at RG, that will be a temporary improvement that may get us into the playoffs. Next years' draft needs to continue the recent tendency of taking an OL in the 1st round by taking a RT or OG. Whichever isn't taken then should be taken in the 2nd round. Just think of two young studs, one replacing Doug Free & the other learning from, then replacing Brian Winters. That would give us five quality offensive linemen, all under the age of 25. I'm sure that would put a smile on Tony Romo's face, & would give us a MUCH better chance of going deep into the playoffs for years to come.

It's a possibility but I can't say I'm on board with this philosophy. You have to draft according to your board. When you go into a draft with a preconceived notion that we have to take 2 offensive linemen (or any other position) in the first two rounds you are setting yourself up to reach on certain players. For example if we pick somewhere in the 20s of the first round and have the plan laid out that we are going to take the best available offensive linemen but who's to say Dallas doesn't have a 2nd or 3rd round grade on him, so when you do that you are really reaching. So I'm a form believer in the philosophy that you have to draft according to your boards. With that being said if there is a OG that we have a high grade on sitting there then I can definitely see Dallas making that pick. The idea that Free has to be replaced and that we HAVE to draft a OT already doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, Free is only 29 years old and is on track to being the 2009 version of himself plus the team has invested several years in the development of Jermey Parnell who has come a long way with his play and is getting better every year. Also the team has kept Darion Weems on the 53 man roster who is a young OT that Dallas is developing. You invest the time in these players you believe can be serviceable so you don't have to use premium picks to fill out the rotation. The offensive line is very young with the exception of Brian Waters (or Winters as you like to call him, just kidding) and has a lot of potential when you consider how they are developing Weems and Parnell. I expect them to reshape the defensive line more than the offensive line this offseason wether it be through the draft or via free agency or both. Spencer most likely won't be with the team next season and Jay Ratliff has been a non factor the last 2 years. Also Hatcher is a free agent at the end of the year and Ware isn't getting any younger. Also the team could be in need another Saftey if JJ Wilcox doesn't develop quickly. So I think there are other needs this team should address before the offensive line at this point. That's just my opinion and how I view this teams needs going forward.

Well to be candid, this OL is probably as close to being revamped as it will be for a while. The number one question is will Waters play another season and if so then you might not see an OL pick at all. If he reretires, then you could see another FA there.

Having the perfect OL with a bunch of high picks just kills the rest of the team, there are several areas on this team that need to be addressed that you would be totally ignoring. Making one unit of the team great while letting the other units suffer doesnt help us any.

they are better. we did address a need.

frederick is going to be a "bryant" pick in years to come. until then, people will whine we're losing.

Disagree! First, its' Waters, not Winters..but regardless, You don't need to spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a RG. Esp if you have a good center, which i believe we do and a good RT, which we might, this year will tell us. If Free starts to blow again, then I could see a 1st or 2nd used on a RT but not for a RG. I think we have to DL or DE in the 1st which ever is the better value at pick 32 :)

OK, needs, two DT and for now a future RG then a RT. I am not sure who will be in the draft but my priority would be DT, then RG, DT, RT, Romo's replacement, Wares replacement, Wittens replacement. An early wish list.:)

I think you should be able to find a good RG later in the draft. I think that if you have a chance to get a Pro Bowl type LG, you should do that, regardless of how good your Center is. I know you didn't say that but that is my opinion on it.

Larry, Step and Nate.
just wish we could find a starting guard ANYWHERE IN THE DRAFT.

"The Break" reporting Sean Lee saying Waters is using more weight in the weight room than anyone else has since he's been here. He says Waters started with 350 pounds, then went up from there.
