Offensive Line better

The offensive line the Cowboys put out there against the Giants was an improvement over last season's line. Of course, since we had one of the worst OLs in the league last year, it wouldn't have taken much to improve. Having said that, we are stronger at Center & LG. When Winters starts at RG, that will be a temporary improvement that may get us into the playoffs. Next years' draft needs to continue the recent tendency of taking an OL in the 1st round by taking a RT or OG. Whichever isn't taken then should be taken in the 2nd round. Just think of two young studs, one replacing Doug Free & the other learning from, then replacing Brian Winters. That would give us five quality offensive linemen, all under the age of 25. I'm sure that would put a smile on Tony Romo's face, & would give us a MUCH better chance of going deep into the playoffs for years to come.

Can't say I agree. Free is fine, and we have far more pressing defensive line needs. Spending our first two picks seems excessive, and you should never go into a draft saying, "We need to pick this position in this round." It's a recipe for reaching.

Disagree! First, its' Waters, not Winters..but regardless, You don't need to spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a RG. Esp if you have a good center, which i believe we do and a good RT, which we might, this year will tell us. If Free starts to blow again, then I could see a 1st or 2nd used on a RT but not for a RG. I think we have to DL or DE in the 1st which ever is the better value at pick 32 :)

I disagree on your thoughts regarding guards. If the proper value is there, by all means draft a RG in the first or second. Chance Warmack was drafted in the first as a RG, as was Zeitler.

In the end, just stick to BPA.

My fault, not clear. Of course you go with BPA but I wasn't talking about general terms, I was specifically talking about the Cowboys and the draft next year. If a RG is by far the best player on our board when we pick, I agree you take them. But if it is close between a RG and a DE or DT, I take the bigger need, which is on the D. I just don't feel RG is a huge need that can't be filled with a 3rd or 4th round pick.

With age of the middle of the D line and Spencer almost certainly gone, the boys will be looking at D line hard in the first for certain.

Hopefully once Waters gets into the lineup we can have the same line over a period of games so that this unit can come together. What makes great OL is not the individual it is the 5 playing as 1

What if center, RB, TE are BPA where we pick in rounds 1 2 and 3?

You cannot buy a team it must be built by good decisions, both in the war room and to know when to fish or cut bait on our older players. We have been like a dog chasing his tail for a long time.

Spot on analysis. Free's not the answer, Leary's knee is suspect and Waters is 36. Must draft an offensive linemean in the 1st or 2nd round. We need help on the DL as well so it will be a tough call.

Yea, we will go into next year's draft with the same three major needs-DL, OL and safety. Hopefully, when this season is done, one of those can be ruled out as priority #1, most likely safety but maybe the OLine could be ok for another year or two if Free plays consistently and Waters plays for another season.

If you want to talk about next years OL the conversation should begin with asking this question: Is Waters returning?

At DE.......Sure would have loved to see what Crawfords potential is, I thinks its there---its just that he hasn't done it yet :) Also like to get a good look at the Ceasar kid and maybe Wilbur can back things up.

That leaves a the need at Ratliffs spot, but not a Shariff Floyd esque reach, then take another Frederick sure bet on the OLine.

I think you should be able to find a good RG later in the draft. I think that if you have a chance to get a Pro Bowl type LG, you should do that, regardless of how good your Center is. I know you didn't say that but that is my opinion on it.

we can get by with Free if he can play like last last Sunday. We certainly will have to continue upgrading
the Oline. The defense will be our focus in the up coming draft based on the trend of the last two drafts.
Jones owes Kiffen.

You look for a trade partner.

And it's not like everyone is ranked in perfect chronological order. You have tiers.

I swear people view the draft as an enigma wrapped in a riddle surrounded by mystery.
