Offensive Line Too Old?

As our long 2nd Quarter drive was winding down, Buck said something about this taking a lot out of the NYG defense for the 2nd half. I thought at the time "Are you kidding, everyone of our OL are pushing 30 or older. They are the ones that are going to need rest in the 2nd half." I kinda laughed it off, until the 4th quarter, and then started thinking, darn , that may be what happened. Our OL did not have enough to take on the Giants Defensive Line in the 2nd half. They looked worn out. Even needing help to get off the turf in some cases.

They couldn't open a hole for a talented running back. They couldn't protect Romo to where he could make good decisions. I blame 80% of this loss on the old worn out offensive line.

I have long been a critic of the Cowboy's OL during this 11 year drought, and will continue to be so, until we get some young good talent in there, and a good line coach that can teach a young player to play within 2 years of being drafted. Old FA players are not the answer.

By the way - I am old myself, so I am allowed criticize the old and weak.

I think Gurode is a little overrated too. Hes better than decent but how long has he been playing and yet his snapping is still off?

come on man, thats just ridiculous.

Only one player is over 30 and that is the Hotel. Try and do some research before you look so stupid.

Agreed. Also, OLmen don't age as fast as "skill" position players. OLmen don't peak until their early-to-mid 30s. So, we can go another 5-8 years with this current group, barring injury, before any age issues should be seriously discussed.

Our OL is not to old. Thats an absurd comment. Instead, why don't you look at what the giant defense was doing in the first half and compare it to what they were doing in the 4th quarter.

I saw us with a game plan that we had not used all year.....possibly cause we all of a sudden decide to "start" MBIII?....thats Like the Phnx suns going with a stall game come playoff time.....

I saw Flo by the middle of the 4th Qtr not even getting out of his stance before Gints DE was by him..........I saw a simple stunt that Kosier could not react to...

I saw Saprano screaming at the OLine---"dont wait for them to come to you---go hit them, get off the line".........as detailed by Troy A. during the game

I saw Romo giving the Oline the business for not getting the job done...virtually never happened all year.....not to that extent for sure

I saw Witten not out in the pattern in order to max protect against a
very suspect secondary......

I saw the gints Def coor come with a philly blitz package the Boys' were totally unprepared for.....oh and by the way.....he worked under Jim Johnson for bout' 7 years...........

Neither offensive tackle or Gurode could handle their job, especially in the 4th quarter. You tell me why? The giants were running by them even when there was no blitz. Wore out??? or just don't know how to do their job? Doesn't matter - they couldn't do what they are paid to do.

Maybe 30 years is prime. But the Patriots sure blow that theory. They play with 11 years less experience on the front line and I would say do quite a bit better job than our PRIME_TIME Line.

Thank you, and it has always been the case that it is much easier to be the one doing the hitting instead of the ones being pounded on. This is a rediculous argument.

Yep, this is a good reason not to insult people.

But according to the members of this forum, don't OL-men peak at age 40?

I disagree with your premise, as age is in most cases a good attribute for OL, and 30 is right around peak age....but that was awesome.

Actually an O lineman can peak at 30 and hold it there for several years. Its not untill 34-35 that you can expect them to start downhill.

Unfortunately, that's where Flo is at. I love the guy, but maybe it's time to let go.
