Official: Cromartie to Jets for 2011 third rounder

He had no say in where he was traded. Supposedly we were the 1st team the Chargers contacted. If he came here and played well enough to beat out Newman, I'd have ZERO problem giving up a 2011 2nd for him.

Newman >>> Cromartie

Considering that Cromartie doesnt like to tackle, I dont get why everybody has a hard on for the guy. I have seen videos where Cromartie just pulls up and lets the RB go right by him with no attempt to tackle at all.

No thanks, the Jet can have him.

And it wasnt just the tackling...he was lousy in coverage too

He had one really good year and otherwise has been pretty mediocre

jerry will make nessesary moves he isnt really calling shots anymore imo... Stephen and scouting dept are.

thats funny... completely made up and very funny!

Maybe Jerry Read this part of his Bio and passed for this reason.

Cromartie, according to some reports, has fathered seven children by six different women in five different states and has been named in at least five paternity suits.

I agree with that statement. And I'm not the biggest Newman fan out there.

Cromartie did have one of the most impressive seasons you'll ever see from a corner.

Newman doesn't have Cromartie's ball skills or playmaking ability, but he's a much better corner than him. Besides Newman can read, something Cromartie still can't do.

Because people remember the FG returns for TDs and spectacular reaching INTs of Peyton Manning more than every down consistency.

People have pointed out that they're surprised Wade wouldn't want this guy for such a small price... Well, that probably says something about his opinion of the player, doesn't it?

Yeah....his opinion of the player and the person.

When has Wade Phillips been an authority on talent evaluation? Look, I'm not saying not getting him is going to break us, but Rex Ryan went to the AFC title game last year and rebuilt that Jets defense in one season. I dare you to find me another CB duo better in the AFC after this acquisition. The point is the jets are a better defense today than they were yesterday.

Because Wade coached him every day and knows his personality better than most.

Everyone knows Cromartie has talent, but there's some reason the Chargers gave him away for nothing. Haven't we learned around here the last few years that talent alone isn't the be-all and end-all?

I agree with you....it looks like a good move for the Jets.

But Wade does have a rep for being a very good defensive talent evaluator. I think risk/reward/cost were factored in by Jerry and Wade, with the added fact that Dallas has 3 pretty good corners already and AC is gpoing to be wanting big coin soon.

Revis is going to make him look better than he really is.
No doubt. Revis will lock up the other team's #1 and AC will be covering a lesser player and will usually have help. Nice gig if you can get it.

extremely doubtful...teams will throw at him more, exposing his issues even more than they are now...and his tackling problem will only become more of an issue now that he'll get more balls thrown his way...cant wait to see how Ryan and co react when he gives up on some tackles like he did in that Jets game

For a conditional 3rd, could work its way up to a 2nd...

In 2011.

Per NFLN

edit: Antonio Cromartie, in case there was confusion.

I might have been.

It was the first I heard of it.
