***Official Draft Thread Day One***

What I dont understand is how Cowboys fans on this forum do not notice that fans of all teams around the NFL wanted us to take Manziel because of how bad of a pick it would be. It was being joked about by everyone. It is truly sad when fans of other teams realize better then our own how good we are set at QB with Romo
Show me some of those fans from other teams. My friends that are fans from other teams, who I happen to hangout with every Sunday during football season, all laugh at our predicament at QB. First and foremost, the extension was a joke. Secondly, While Romo is a decent option at QB when healthy, he is fading fast. Get someone in here to groom. SIGH....

The Martin pick should surprise nobody. Pretty much following the exact strategy Jerry laid out in his pre draft press conference. He even specifically stated they could look O-line.

I would not have had a problem if they had taken a QB. But if you look around the league there are not too many GMs who follow the "Ron Wolf" school of thought on the subject.

I can't remember the last time a team had a starter under 35 who finished top 10 in passer rating and then went on to draft a QB in the first round. Simply does not happen.

I was buying into the Manziel hype machine.

When Donald Aaron went off the board, I thought Jerry would pull the trigger on JF.

Martin was the smart pick. BPA and immediately upgrades our OL.

Well, at least a bunch of us got one right on Risen's pick 20 list:cool:

I'm not saying that line isn't important. But everyone here assumes that a lineman is automatically a good pick. Right now, we're fine on the offensive line. And we're not a running team. And our defense is crap. Without even mentioning quarterback, this is a crummy pick.

To be fair, they were pretty frustrated at a failed trade-down attempt before phoning in the pick. Martin was one of the safest picks in the draft. Easily the safest at 16. He could beat out three different current starters on the OL on opening day. Think about that.

Jerry is a flighty creature, prone to jump from from paradigm to paradigm like a squirrel in a tree. But it's sometimes a slow-motion jump. If he has really jumped into a paradigm that emphasizes the need for olines and BPA then 1.5 cheers for Jerry. Let's enjoy it while it lasts, be it 2 years or 10.

LT: Tyron Smith
LG: Zach Martin
C: Travis Frederick
RG: Ron Leary
RT: Doug Free

I love this line (I know Leary played LG last year, but I like Martin there) and if Free plays like he did last year and Leary improves any, then we could have a great line.

Has anyone mentioned if we go to 18 games, the OL and DL become HUGE? Guy like Manziel has zero chance of playing 18. Get ahead of this trend. DL next.

This is a bad mistake.. the worst defense in the NFL. and a 34 year old QB on the down side. and Jerry draft's an O-Linemen. everything To try and help a washed up Romo. while the rest of the team is not good. it's all about his pet Romo. Jerry Jones is the problem.

Dude you are way off. Romo washed up? Is your TV broken? I wanted Manziel as much as anyone and it's more about Romo breaking down.

+1000. Jerry is a fool for Romo. everything he does is for Romo's sake. and it's killing this franchise. Johnny fell in his lap and he said no thanks. and it will backfire on him. Johnny football is going to be a hell of a NFL QB.

You sound ridiculous right now. Buying into the hype. Johnny still hasn't been picked yet either. Hype doesn't win games.

Zach Martin will almost definitely be good during that future, as will Smith and Frederick. That future theoretical great Cowboy team will need a great Oline, IMO, and these guys will be the core of it. Yeah, you need a QB of the future to replace Romo, but Manziel is a risk. Martin isn't.

Exactly, Luck and RGIII sure as hell did not slide like JF and Bridgewater because they had fewer question marks. JF and Bridgewater may turn out to be great but taking that risk at 1 would have been stupid.

I like the Zach Martin pick a lot. As much as we need help on D, the OL needed another player. We now have talent and depth on the OL. The game is won/lost in the trenches. I hope we can get some DL help in the next couple of rounds.
