I'm actually okay with that, if, say, they think this draft is so deep that a 3rd-rounder this year is better than a 2nd-rounder will be next year. But I'm not okay with trades that leave us with fewer picks overall, like the one we just made.

At this point, I wouldn't give up our second rounder next year this far back in the second round. If we see someone in the third round we have rated highly and trade next year's #3 and a #4 or #5 pick, I would prefer that. Ideally, you walk away from the draft with three starters and use your 7th rounders for your diamonds in the rough/churn the bottom of the roster.
