If your in Texas and you want to catch fish to eat. You want to forget about Bass and target Crappie. Best tasting fresh water fish IMO

i only enjoy deep sea fishing. pay a fee to a charter boat, they take care of the rod, the bait, clean your fish up on the ride back in. All i have to bring is a cooler full of beer and a hoagie.

Did that a couple of years ago off of H & M Landing in San Diego and had a ball. I can't eat seafood (allergic), so I donated my catches to my nephews. We were out to sea for 4 days. Couldn't even see land in any direction.

Our cabin was 6'6" x 6'6" x 6'6" and slept 6. No joke. 2 bunks on the floor, 2 more 2 feet above that, and 2 more 2 feet above that, with the ceiling 2 feet above the top bunks. Your suitcase had to be in the bunk with you so pack light. The rocking of the boat puts you right to sleep though. One night I slept up on the top deck.

Total blast of a time.

find a charter boat, you'll pay a fee to go out for the day and they take care of everything for you.. I go blue fising a lot and its 45 per person and i rent a rod for another 5 bucks. I pay 2$ to get in the pool for biggest catch of the day. Usually we get about 40 people on the boat so winner would get 80 bucks.

The same boat does tuna fising in the fall, that costs about 90 per person but they take fewer people out.

Maybe down south...IMO, any trout, walleye, and yellow perch are better eating. Bullhead Catfish are damn tasty too. Another sleeper is the freshwater eel...I kid you not. Crappie is good, but not the best...but then again, I guess you guys might not have many of those fish that far south. I could be wrong.

What's everyone's best "trophy" type fish? Mine was a 6lb11oz Smallmouth Bass I caught on a super UL spincaster with 3lb test. Quite a battle.

Sounds to me, from your description, your're loaded for bass. Top water lures are also known as buzz baits. Best in the water foilage(bushes, trees, etc.) or in the mornings/evenings in open water. Always, no matter what your angling for, try different retrieve speeds and depths. Bass are an agressive fish so cast towards attack points. Either brush, edges of coves or rocky areas. All places where they can and will hide. They are a warm water fish so mornings in the shallower waters and hot afternoons in the deeper waters or shaded areas. Flavored worms.........personally I go more for color rather than scent. Scent is primarily for bait fishing in the afternoon or night. Buy a Timber Doodle. You can work the bottom of the water in brushy areas and attach different styles of worms. You can also "jig" with them. Try shad colored lures. Rapala "rattletrap" lures are pretty decent too in same color. Beware the overly colored/fancy lures. Look pretty to buy but the fish don't care.

In general, Bass fishin' is work. Most fishin' is. That's why they call it "fishing" and not catching..............;) Good luck, and with patience..........it ain't luck at all.

We have some Walleye here I believe. All kinds of perch. Also have trout and at least 3 species of Catfish. Have never had Walleye so I cant compare. Perch is good. Never been a real fan of trout. Of course most of my experience with trout comes from Calif.

Trophy fish? It would have to be when I was 13. Caught an 18lb striper out of the Aquaduct in California. That was fun

How/where/what are you fishing? Stock Pond? Bank of the lake? Boat in the lake? River?

Bass? Panfish? Catfish? Crappie?

It all makes a difference...

Crappie is a great tasting fish but they are normally caught at certain times of the year. They are also called White Perch by many...

If its bass your gunning for, here is a great site. http://www.bassresource.com/fish/bass_fish.html
If your just starting out, find a good lure that works well at your Lake (ask the local bait shop) and stick with it till you learn it well.

thanks for the tips guys! at lake bastrop what seemed to be working were the 6 inch fake worms, usually the darker green and red colors was what all the people catching fish on boats said they were using. I love my topwater, thats how i caught my first fish, and it was right around sunrise, i noticed that right around that time fish will be jumping a lot.

im going mainly for bass, but id like to catch anything, except for catfish, they gross me out, my cousin wants to catch catfish though. He has only tried the stink bait, but i keep telling him to use beef liver, thats how my dad use to catch them.

its in the local lakes here in central texas that i do most of my fishing, they are stocked with mainly big mouths, stripped, and white bass, channel and another type of catfish, sunfish, and crappies. seeing how im still in college i cant afford a boat so i fish off the shore, although some places rent out canoes and im probably gonna give that a try later on.
