He won't stay at 14m......if he wants to stay in DAL it will be as a backup for much much less
He won't be released for nothing and no cap relief
He may get traded or he may retire

If he doesn't get traded then he will be here. At 14 million and they will have an open qb competition and Romo will smoke Dak and win his job back. Dak can hope for another injury at that point that's only way he would get job back

I heard a clip from Garrett in some PC he gave and you could almost draw a similar conclusion. Said they brought in Dak and felt like they had to ride the hot hand, as in it left open the option for Tony

OMG. This fool on CBS radio, Doug Gotlieb, thinks the Cowboys should consider trading Dak to Cleveland for a first round pick. He thinks Romo can give Dallas two more seasons. While the Cowboys rebuild the defense. This is going to be a long offseason.

He's 100% just baiting a hook for a possible trade. But that's also the right thing to do right now.

Tony's either going to get let go outright so he can do to a contender, or he's going to get traded to a contender for more than people in Dallas expect he's worth right now. I can't decide which I think is going to happen, but I know which one I want.

Osweiler now. Tony Romo if he were traded to the Texans. Houston has too much money tied up in Osweiler.

They could make it work. Relegate Brock to back-up and let him play one more season then his guaranteed money is off the books. They have a few big contracts that could be restructured as well.

It may not be the smart play but it is doable. One problem though, McClain is a cheapskate and does not throw money away. It would take quite a bit of public pressure to find a better QB.

is he really considering that idea that Romo could start for us next year and he can place Prescott on the back burner for now?

Some of those quotes from his recent interview were head scratching. With him, you really can't tell. Is he simply just trying to drive up Romo's value or does he really envision a scenario where Tony starts and Dak is the backup?

He's not considering starting Romo that's just Jerry being Jerry. Once Romo held that press conference relinquishing his starting job, that was the beginning of the end of his stay in Dallas. Dak has done nothing since that press conference to leave any doubt that he's our franchise QB going forward. The Cowboys had Romo hold that press conference to put an end to the speculation and distractions. The last thing the team needs is a QB controversy heading into training camp next summer.

Neither QB is going to be happy as a backup and Romo certainly isn't going to be happy having to compete for a job he never lost on the field. Dak has secured the job and we don't need to be going into camp with a QB competition that will certainly lead to a distraction and a divide amongst the fan base and possibly in the locker room. Romo has to be released and go to a team where he can start and not waste what little time is left in his career as a backup.

I'm hoping for a trade with the Texans. I think Romo is better than Dak but if we can flip him for a dominant pass rusher I'll live with the young qb and improved defense
Romo for Clowney all day

There have been a lot of QBs that have had great rookie years or seasons as a first year starter only to come back to earth the following year. It is not inconceivable to me that Romo is in the mix next year if we can't get anything for him and Romo is willing to stay if giving the opportunity to compete for the job.

All the blah blah blah about not messing with a streak or playing with a QBs head will be out the window starting a fresh year. If Romo can stay on the field he would win that battle IMO, so if you are going to pay a huge chunk of change no matter what you do, I think we might as well have the best QB playing.

Opinions do vary...I have history on my side.
Jerry will not treat Tony wrong and the most likely path is a release just like with DeMarcus Ware.
Just sayin'.

DeMarcus Ware and Tony Romo are completely different situations.

Ware was coming off a season of 6 sacks and was scheduled to make 13 Million in 2014 and 14 Million in 2015. With Romo the team would actually gain cap space by trading him.

We would gain cap space but, Tony would have to agree to the trade. He's not going to just any team that offers a pick. Cleveland or
Buffalo might offer a pick but, would Tony take his family there? Not likely.
