It doesn't have to be a traditional spike. Just throwing the ball can earn a penalty. It can be a subjective call and T.O. will not get the benefit of the doubt. The refs will be more strict with him. That sucks, but he knows this or at least should know this by now. Flip the ball to the refs or just drop it straight down to your feet. Stop tossing the football to the side.

Being that it is Owens, throwing it away from the new line of scrimmage may still have garnered a flag in the refs eyes. Tossing the ball to the refs may be a better alternative--or, at least, for the short-term.

the way the refs are calling him they'll probably flag him for unsportsman like conduct and eject him from the game for throwing the ball at the official...
It was a lame call, it is a lame penalty, if the issue is delaying the game call it when the player is delaying the game on purpose, for once they can take a lesson from soccer, if a player is intentionally keeping the ball out of play he gets carded, if its not intentional it's part of the game.

I would have no problem with the calls if I didnt see it happen 10 times a week during every other game I watch with no flag. The whole rule is stupid anyway. Its bad enough they took away TD celebrations etc this is just getting ridicilous.

I'm sorry, but if I was TO (besides being rich ), after that penalty was thrown, the next catch I make, I would run over, dust off the ball and start to hand the ball to the officials....and then SPIKE the living ---- out of the ball right at his feet. (insert bad word of your choice)

I know that wouldn't go over too well with the media...but that call is just complete BS.

What is up with all the bogus calls against TO this year? Does the NFL have it out for him or what? That was the 3rd time this year he was called for spiking the ball when all he did was drop it behind him. He has had a couple of really questionable offensive PI penalties called on him and there is was obvious he was pushed out of bounds on another catch he had in the 4th quarter.

Well, those penalties for spiking the ball were right called, the thing that they do wrong, is that they dont call those penalties on every player, I usually watch other ones doing the same thing and dont get anything in return.

Where I think youre right is about that obvious catch where they push him out of bounds, that should have been called a catch.

Obviously I get all revved up during the game, but I was about to really lose it when Romo got his helmet pulled off. All night long they had been giving 50/50 calls to the Bills, and then Romo gets his helmet pulled off on a scramble.

Then the refs went into their little pow wow. I seriously thought that they were about to pick up the flag. There were any number of penalties they could call. We could have got 45 yards worth on that one.
