Either Ware reduces his salary for next season or he's cut.

You can't simply renegotiate his contract to forward the "salary cap pain"... That's not good for the franchise long-term.

Reduild OL? wow

I agree the offensiveline is looking much improved. But I believe that the poster is hoping for one solid guard to be drafted early as a strong addition to what soon could be the Cowboys Benchmark. And I am with him.

agreed

like other positions on the team, we have capable starters but questionable depth
that is partly why we have the so called december woes
every team suffers injuries, the problem is that our backups arent competitive and other teams exploit that

our GM needs to focus on upgrading the entire roster, not just pick the shiny toy in round 1
The good thing is that they are giving themselves a chance to develop young players now,

In the past they gave too many snaps to stopgap veterans that were either gone or too old the following seasons. Now they are playing Wilcox/Heath where in past years they would have stayed will Wil Allen at safety. This gives them a chance to develop players. Fred, Leary, Wilcox, Heath, TWilliams, Beasley, etc.. are getting valuable experience.

What's comical is that fans hate any young players that are not great immediately. Posters wanted to cut Leary early I the season because he made a few mistakes. Now they want to cut Heath. They figure Weems must suck because he is not playing. Etc., etc..

They can make great progress with the roster this offseason if somebody can just convince Jerry not to restructure/extend the contracts of Ware and Austin. They can afford as many as 4 top end YOUNG free agents with the savings from these 2 cuts and not re-signing Spencer/Hatcher.

This is why I'm concerned about Garrett being fired. Jerry needs somebody pushing him not to hang on to old players. I think Garrett and Stephen Jones want to move forward but constantly have to battlle with Jerry to make the difficult emotional decisions like cutting Ware. Jerry could make a big mess while a new HC is coming up to speed on all of these issues.

Do we need Marinelli? looking at our record breaking defensive statistics in 2013 I say we definitely do NOT need him. A different climate and direction on the defensive side is a must. New regime needed in big D and that includes new faces coaching the defense.

Marinelli is the one coach this year who has actually done a good job. He's the best coach we have by a landslide.

I agree and at the same time we don't NEED him. Get the new DC is this defenses priority. If it mean goodbye to Rod then goodbye Rod. If he stays great.

So you want to get rid of the best coach we have by FAR just because we are in need of a DC?

Another aspect that I would like to bring up about Marinelli. The defensive line is getting zero pressure on the opposing teams quarterback. In training camp we started seeing the bodies fall. Does Rod have no idea whatsoever that a whisper in Jerry's ear was imperative. Either he has no cred or he is just as responsible as any coach on this team not to clue in the GM that we are in dire straits. This! was not a surprise attack! We saw this coming but our coaches assessed our dline situation including DeMarcus Ware's play as being excellent. I don't buy the bs that was presented to us fans during camp and early on. D line coaches are responsible for the fast food type players they put out for a high class affair. Marinellis defensive minded past is more than solid. But like Kiffin, he did nothing this year that gives him a pass. Worst defense in the history of the NFL, I have no problem getting rid of every coach.

If he can get back to being healthy he will be fine. And in a situational role he would be good. Cut him in 2015, but not next yr.

but you said restructure him. if you restructure him, won't you be shooting yourself in the foot if you turn around and cut him?
i'm FAR from an expert on salary cap rules, so this is a legitimate question.

Maybe because the equivalent of my next door neighbor is being asked to rush the passer.

Some posters get a buffet of reasons to put on their plate and decide to just load up on the mashed potatoes only.

He said rebuild. That mean scrap what they got. They have their starters for 2014 in leary and Mack. They have their Starting tackles and center. They have parnell and weems, and Costa. I agree they need a couple of Gs but a rebuilding of the OL? No
