Offseason Mock

This isnt specfically my mock. Its what i think can happen on need. I listen to alot of cowboys feeds and read alot. I just take what i read and hear and try to form thoughts on what can happen. When i post what i want to happen i post with the word MY in front of it. I know alot of people dont do that. And alot of people think everything i post is what i want to happen.

I dont believe that this team CB is hurting this team more than SS for a second. It didnt matter who payed SS wether it was Wilcox or Church, the opposing team targeted that side of the field. Carr isnt as bad as most think , but it looks like it because teams are targeting his side. Why? Because his help is 95% of the time out of posistion. Dallas plays 75-80% zone and Carr gives up some but them inside slants or them deep fades, there is supposed to be a LBer or S there to help. If you go back there is nobody there or they are late most of the time. SS is by far IMO the weakest posistion on this team.

I hear ya, but why do you think our CBs rarely if ever make big plays? Carr got a $50mil contract and Claiborne cost us a trade up to pick 6. These guys are expensive as hell and neither is the best CB on our team.
I can't chalk that all up to strong safety play. Or maybe I can who knows. I'm not gonna just disregard your perspective. Either way, if it's my call I'm picking CB over SS.

Myles Jack play against the run, and his cover ability would leave Lee where he is. Jack has played all LBer spots at UCLA and played all 3 downs at LBer and even lined in the slot covering RBs WRs and TEs. Alot of people are blinded by his injury which was early. He's already preparing for the combine at the pheonix institute. After the combine people are going to be all over this guys jock.

Everything I had read and watched on Myles Jack leads me to believe he would get swallowed if he played MLB. His biggest weakness, by far, is disengaging from blocks. I don't believe in drafting a guy that high and immediately putting him in a position where he can't use the abilities which made him such a great prospect. The guy is a weakside backer.

Because they play zone. they arent going with the WR on the slants they release them and thats when alot of them catches are made. Teams in the nfl today abuse zone defense because of the rules and the NFLs inability to abide by their rules in not calling pick plays.

Why is it Carr and claibornes fault they are stuck playing a style of defense they werent signed or drafted to play? Neither are zone cover CBs. They were signed and drafted to play in Ryans man coverage scheme. Why do people ignore these facts?

They played a lot of man this season..

Freeagent signings

Johnny Manziel QB - it is what it is, If he becomes available no matter what you feel or want, theres a 85% chance Jerry signs him. For cheap too.

Muhammad Wilkerson DT - Think this team will spend a nice chunk on pressure. Dallas has fast DEs undersized but fast. Pressure up the gut will hide alot of faults. Wilkerson will make Crawford better and form a very disruptive middle. This to me would be a no brainer.

Draft
Round 1
1. titans - Laremy Tunsil T Ole Miss
2. browns - Jared Goff QB Cal
3. chargers - trade with SF- Paxton Lynch QB Memphis
4. cowboys - trade with Ravens - Joey Bosa LB Ohio State Dallas gets RD1 and RD3
5. jaguars - Jalen Ramsey DB Florida State
6. cowboys - Myles Jack LB UCLA
Dallas coveted Anthony Barr a couple yrs ago, this time they get their guy. Same type of athlete but more polished and established as a LBer. Alot better cover skills. Fits perfectly in the middle of this defense. He'd add a element this defense doesnt have. Me personally i think he's going to be the best player from this draft.

Round 2
Jayron Kearse S Clemson
Big aggressive and can cover. Team him up with Jones and theres alot to look forward to.

Round 3
William Jackson III CB
Really good CB who you dont hear about too much. But this guy can move. Would be nice to work into packages and should develop into a starter.

Round 3(BAL)
Alex Collins RB Arkansas
Jerry loves his Razorbacks, and heres a RB who is what they need. Tough runner to get them yrds between the tackles.

Round 4
Jake Coker QB Alabama
Has all the tools to develop. played in big games and won. Also played in a pro style offense. Needs to develop but will have time on this team.

Round 4(COMP)
Luther Maddy DT Virginia Tech
Strong against the run but provides pressure up the gut. Good for the rotation behind Wilkerson

Round 6(OAK)
Cayleb Jones WR Arizona
An intriguing player. Ive read alot of this guy, had some trouble early in his time at Arizona but has since straightened up his act. Had a disappointing Jr yr but has everything you want in a guy to make plays. Would be a low risk high reward type player this low.

Round 6(COMP)
Jordan Walsh OG/C Iowa
Plays with excellent technique, but scouts say he would be a better center in the NFL. Could be that replacement for Bernadeau.

Round 6(COMP)
Glenn Grownkowski FB Kansas State
Does everything asked of a FB. Amd does it good.

Round 6(COMP)
Ron Thompson DE Syracuse
Very quick off the snap. needs to get stronger but he has skill. Could develop behind Gregory on the weakside. And plays Crawford on the strongside behind Lawrence.

lol no they didnt. They mixed it in but no majority was zone.

The Cowboys, though, have been in man coverage the majority of the time in 2015. Many of us wondered if that is where they were headed when they took another corner in the draft (who plays pretty strong man), but when Orlando Scandrick was injured and lost for the year, it quickly became viewed by many that they may need to stay in their zones.

It appears Rod Marinelli disagrees. He wants his DBs in man coverage in many situations, because it seems that bringing Sean Lee from the "hole" on pressures is a big part of what they have planned in 2015, and Scandrick is not going to ruin that plan.

They played a lot of man this year!!!

I dont like Kearse in coverage, neither do a lot of scouts.

you know I see an here a lot of talk about this kid - I have yet see him make a single tackle

I would not even look his way

Very first link. I have seen and watched plenty. Everyone agrees that his weakness is disengaging from blocks. If you put him in the middle, he is going to have to deal with blocks nearly every down. He is far better suited to play on the weakside where he can fly around like Lee did this season.

Jack's ability in coverage make him ideally suited to playing outside in a 4-3 scheme, where his lack of ideal size is mitigated.

I think he cost himself a lot of money last night. I saw him make business decisions more than once. In a game where he could have really gone out and cemented himself as a playmaker, he was completely flat.

I wonder if he'll go back to school after such a poor showing.
