My first off season mock of the year. I dont expect us to do much but here is what i would do.
Keep: David Irving, Justin Durant, Jack Crawford
Release: Brandon Carr, Benson Mayowa, Kyle Wilber
I think we let both Mo and T McClain walk. They have been playing great this year but the possible asking prices may not be worth it with their injury history. Bring back the young and versatile Irving and look to the DB deep draft for CB help. Mayowa is released to make room for another DL and Wilber is let go for Jaylon Smith and he already lost his job to Wilson.
Free Agency: Demarcus Ware
No huge name DE in their prime on the market this year. Best ones would be Jabaal Sheard who im open to signing and Andre Branch who is meh to me. But we need immediate help and Ware coming in as a pass rush specialist could be a huge boost. Asking price won't be huge seeing as his forearm injury has allowed Shane Ray to step in and start to make some noise. Lets bring Ware back home.
1st.) WR John Ross III, Washington- Didn't think i would be making a mock with a WR in the 1st this year with all our defensive needs but John Ross is the WR that just about this entire board has been wishing for to play opposite of Dez. Ross is a big time playmaker with his elite speed and great hands. Not the biggest WR but he is average size with long arms. Also not the best route runner but neither was Dez in his early years. What gets me most excited is the comparisons to Desean Jackson when he played in Philly and NFL scouts saying he will be better then Brandin Cooks. If he is their at our pick i will be screaming at the TV for us to draft him.
2nd.) CB Chidobe Awuzie, Colorado- My favorite corner in this years draft. Awuzie is a triple threat at corner back. Great in the run support, best blitzing corner in the draft, and very good in coverage. Not the biggest corner at 5'11" 200lbs but he hits hard and is does a great job of coming up and limiting YAC. Some scouts believe he will be the steal of the draft and a future pro bowler.
3rd.) DE Jordan Willis, Kansas State- An edge rusher that i expect more posters on here to start to pay attention to in the near future. A handful on the strong side, Willis is a good all around defensive end. Good rusher and good in stopping the run. Finished his Junior year with 9.5 sacks, 15.5 TFL and 4 forced fumbles. So far this year he has 9 sacks & 13.5 TFL with 3 games left on the schedule so a double digit sack season is very possible for him. Move Tank to right side and play Willis at Left end with Ware coming in as a pass rush specialist.
4th.) SS Ahmad Thomas, Oklahoma- Thomas is a very hard hitting safety who excels at stuffing the run. Best as a box safety in the NFL, he still has good coverage skills and even plays some single high at Oklahoma. With both Church and Wilcox free agents and neither really worth bringing back, lets pair Jones with another young safety to develop with and create a good long term duo at safety.
6th.) CB Fabian Moreau, UCLA- Underrated corner who has what scouts look for in tackling, coverage, and ball skills. He doesn't grab many interceptions but he does get a good amount of PBU's. if he can learn to turn them into turnovers then this would be a huge steal. Hoping he can be another late round find like Anthony Brown last draft.
7th.) OG Kyle Kalis, Michigan- Combo Guard/center, Kalis is potential cheap replacement for Looney. Has quick feet and the strength to be reliable in both pass and run blocking.
7th.) RB Khalfani Muhammad, California- Muhammad could probably be got after the draft but i would rather lock him down with a pick to make sure. He is a big time play maker as a scat back. He has great hands, 4.3 speed, and he hits his top speed in an instant. He has good vision and is very shifty to go along with his speed so he is always a threat to take it to the house when he rushes, catches a ball in the backfield, or returns a kick. He is small at 5'8" 170 lbs but he is very fearless with no hesitation running between the tackles and he is stronger then he looks. seen him truck a few a safeties and corners and keep running. Seen him lower the shoulder and deliver a shot right into the chest of linebackers and spin away for a few extra yards. He and Zeke would be a nightmare for defensive coordinators.
