If by "didn't help much" you mean going from 6-10 and 30th ranked defense in 2015 to 6-3 with the 11th ranked defense then you would be correct:rolleyes:

I'm not sure what you are talking about but the Giants defensive FA have helped them a lot

It would be absolutely crazy to take a WR in Rd 1 and just as crazy to resign an over the hill Ware

We have to get younger and more talented on defense via FA and the draft. Priority has to be front 7 this off season

I agree but you can't just draft defense just to draft defense.

If a WR or offensive tackle is the best position available then you have to take them over a defender.

We all want defense though.

Some just don't understand that defense just may not be the best option. The best 3 players at our pick may be a WR, RB, and OG. I would take a WR or OG if they are worth it. our philosophy so far has been the best defense is a good offense. Don't know why some would have a problem with adding another big time playmaker or even completing the line by taking a dominating guard and moving La'el Collins to RT. Either one would help keep our defense off the field even longer.

But we extended Frederick early and i expect them to do the same for Martin. I know your the cap guru but the way you think and the way the front office thinks is always the complete opposite. So ill go with the current trend and patterns of the Stephen Jones led front office instead of creating some pipedream we all know will not happen like signing Mo, church, T McClain and still getting say Chandler Jones. our big gets last year was Thornton and Mayowa.
I don't know why you need to mock me for offering an opinion..........the FO hasn't made this big sea change.......we still restructure everyone just like I suggest.......we just do it in stages to fool everyone......we have never signed big FAs and extending our own guys is SOP......Frederick never made the money Martin did and even so there is no reason to go early but if they do the big money hits won't be until 2020+

I'm not mocking you. I would actually prefer you in a front office position over most of the current people. You have great ideas and I love reading your ideas, but the thing is they end up doing the complete opposite under Stephen Jones. They see free agency as a way to get depth and stop gaps at positions of need. I remember your amazing ideas of getting Oliver Vernon and Janoris Jenkins while still giving fredbeard and Martin their paydays. We restructured and got Carr to take pay cut. What we do? We signed Thornton and Mayowa to bolster the line and freaking Josh Thomas to help the secondary. Ended up getting passed up by a 6th round rookie.

It's not that I wouldn't love to have one of your ideas come true but more so the sad fact they are pipe dreams even when you show the evidence that they are possible. They see that getting their core players locked down for long term contracts to be the most important.

I think we fell in love with comp picks and have shunned big FAs because of it...we have the second or third most all time behind BAL and GB

But they do it for revenue reasons that don't pertain to us.......we print money every year and should not be afraid of a FA or two..... I am not naive enough to believe we will always sign big guys but I can't help wanting a Suh, Vernon or Norman....I would rather have one of them instead of Carr, Free and Thornton

Well they are trying to follow what the Pats, Packs, and Steelers do but they still sign mid level free agents and a big one here and their. We must get better at drafting in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds because thats where they have the advantage. They turn mid round players into solid starting players as well as high end starters which in return gives them heir Comp picks. We are buys trying to earn Comp picks with players that teams are not really going to want. only reason we got the comp pick for Murry was because Chip Kelly did us a solid and overpaid him to keep him from us giving us Dak.

Here is to hoping that they attempt to go for Chandler Jones to bolster the front line but i have high doubts. Gonna lose it if Trent Cole and/or a 35 year old Dwight Freeney is our attempt to fix the pass rush.

We definitely need help at DE, and personally I wouldn't want to wait 2-3 years for one to develop. It's ok to draft a couple, but let's get some proven talent in here

In regards to building a tram via free agency and drafting - it worked well for the Broncos, and it went "ok" for the Giants. Currently they are ranked 14th in defense which is a couple above average and 5th in run defense. Where they are terrible is pass defense. They need to fix that.
On the offensive side, Demarco Murray and Marty B are good examples of ex Cowboys really helping their new teams. So I think a combination of both free agency and draft is the way to go

Yea i would love a proven talent on the line but seeing us not really go after anyone with serious intentions of signing kinda killed my optimism. especially when last years free agent class had so many great players. They need to learn to balance building through draft and signing proven talent but i see ignoring free agency for the 1st week again and go after who evers left. Its why attempted to fix our needs with a more realistic signing and type of draft.

Yet still may end up 4th in the division when all said and done. Aint that a *****. And you want to reach for another D law level DE at best just because you have to take a DE in the 1st instead of taking a DeSean Jackson or Brandin Cook type receiver. Riiiiiiiight.

Cowboys are not interested in smallish speedsters at receiver. X and Y receivers need to be physical in run game. And slot is locked up by young guys like Beasley and Whitehead.

Didn't we take a serious look at Sterling Shepherd last year? he's a small speedy playmaker.

Was it serious? Where was he ranked on draft board?
We brought him in for private workout I believe. Was said on here that they only workout players they are serious about.
