Ogletree's last catch

thanks for the link, here's the quote from the article:

I just kind of stopped in the middle of a route, which is the worst thing you can do," Ogletree said. "He just told me, 'What were you thinking?' I kind of mumbled something to him and he was like, 'You're stupid.' "

Ouch.

At least Ogletree partially redeemed himself with a sweet, one-handed snag on a ball thrown behind him for a 20-yard gain on a slant route to get the game-winning drive going. Romo provided some positive reinforcement for that catch, combined with a swift kick in the butt.

"He says he expects me to make those ones," Ogletree said, "and he kind of expects me to run the wrong routes sometimes, too."

I don't think Ogletree mean the bolded part as a positive statement (at least I hope not)

I think what he meant is that Romo knows he (Otree) will make some mistakes and can live with it so long as he (Otree) keeps busting his butt out there trying to make plays.

Romo knows that right now we need Otree to make plays and he needs the kid to keep up his confidence. He also needs Otree to know that he has confidence in him and will throw him the ball in important situations.

It is part of being a leader.

Exactly, you said it better than I did

I'm really glad that's not your decision to make.

I just can absolutely not understand why people expect a UDFA to go from nothing to solid starter in barely over two years in the league, especially without having much experience. Have we gotten spoiled here?

LOL, believe me, Cowboys fans everywhere should be really glad I'm not making the decisions.

I AM spoiled, more by the direction the current staff seems to be heading in looking for smart, motivated, hardworking football junkies. I don't hear that about KO...hope I'm wrong and I'll happily admit if he proves it. If it's only about time and experience, so be it. The point of my post was that it doesn't matter what we think, I'm curious if he can earn Tony's trust with all the mistakes.

I think part of the problem is that KO knows his role as a #3 wr but when thrust into the the #2 or #1 spot he might have been a bit flustered. Give him more time and see how it develops.

That's a good point.

How about competent NFL player?

Is that too much to ask?

Because Ogletree wasn't even that Monday Night.

He embarrassed both himself and the team with less than rookie level mistakes.

Rookies forget or improvise their routes, not undrafted players who have been with a team for two years plus.

He looks like the same guy from last season who got comortable after his drive and determination landed him a spot on the roster.

And if he doesn't wake up and realize he has to work harder than he is currently, his NFL career will quickly be over.

I do hope he redeems himself but i'm also ready to start seeing Harris in there for few plays per game so see what he can do.

This!

I actually feel bad for Ogletree a little, because when you see him interviewed you can tell he's not even approaching bright. I mean, I'm talking Vince Young wonderlic level. To be a good receiver in the NFL, you either have to have insane talent or some intelligence, or a combination. He has neither, and doesn't seem to have the undeniable work ethic that is the only thing that can help mitigate the lack of those two things.

Ah well, he's making a lot of money to hang around for a while.

We can't afford to run Ogletree out of here, even after Miles and Dezz get healthy. We need the depth. He is a disappointment so far though.

i've never been a huge fan of ogletree but he is what he is. a young unproven player that as long as he's not made a mistake in front of the fans, he's the next big WR for us.

when he gets a chances and doesn't do as well as fans anticipated, he sucks and has to go.

it's a very binary thing that gets highly annoying but it's what many do. make instant decisions and then see things to support that from here on out.

but he's been here for awhile, we are thin at the position and he needs more time on the field to see if he can correct the gametime mistakes. until given that time we still don't know what he can or will be.

unless you're a fangenius of course. :)

but yea, i kinda see it the way you do but he still deserves a few more chances easily.

I'm torn on Ogletree. The guy is fast as crap, can catch the ball pretty well (no Dez Bryant for sure), but he seems thick headed as heck. He seems to be content as a follower...maybe just taking the paycheck and content to do that, I don't know. What is obvious is that he had a bad game. People got all over Crayton for a couple of drops and because he would voice his opinion. Right now, Crayton would be a credit to most of our receivng corp. He was rarely injured and was a solid route runner. Ogletree needs to look around and get a clue. He has the talent, but he needs to work harder since he is a little slower mentally.
