McNabb is the greatest QB in Eagles history? Who is he competing against?
Tommy Thompson, Adrian Burk, Norm Van Brocklin (who was the QB for their last Championship in 1960), Sonny Jurgensen, or how about the guy they traded Sonny for, Norm Snead. They had Roman Gabriel for a couple of years and he was very good for them. Ron Jaworski, Randall Cunningham. How about Bubby Brister?
Face it, the Eagles are not known for having great QBs as the only guys on that list in the HoF are Van Brocklin and Jurgensen, and Van Brocklin only played a couple of seasons with them at the end of his career. Jurgensen is the greatest QB they have ever had and McNabb isn't at his level.
McNabb's stats may look nicer due to the era and passer-rating-friendly offense he plays in but he is nowhere near as good as Sonny. Most Eagles fans hated trading Jurgensen away as Snead was a good QB but not great. When Lombardi coached the Commanders in 1969, he said that if they would have had Jurgensen in Green Bay they never would have lost. That was not a slight to Bart Starr but was a comment on just how great a QB Sonny was.
McNabb is a very good QB but he is not great and will never make it to the HoF. The guys he brought up, Manning, Brady, & Palmer, are great QBs who will all likely end up in the HoF (Manning & Brady are locks and Palmer is well on his way but hasn't played long enough yet).
