But this is great news for Cowboys fans.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4718965

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was fined at least $100,000 in September for violating a gag order by suggesting that revenue sharing was on its way out.

Turns out, he was only tipping the owners' hand.

In a significant move that could impact the flow of money to potential free agents and the competitive balance of teams, the NFL has notified the players' union that, effective next March, owners will pull the plug on the $100-million-per-year revenue-sharing program that has subsidized lower-revenue clubs, multiple sources said.

Parity is cute in all, but it is such socialist idea. Maybe we might actually win a playoff game in the near future.

I'm kind of split on this... on one hand, the Cowboys will be good every year (along with teams like the Browns, Jets, Giants, and Bears). On the other hand, the NFL will lose some luster...

I really don't think the revenue sharing will make much of a difference unless they don't make a new salary cap in the next CBA. I don't think there's any way that they don't have a new cap in place in the new one.

The problem is the NFL is a protected Monopoly by the Government

If it becomes baseball I will just quit watching like I have Baseball

The competive balance makes this game great. Any week any team can beat any other team. Take that away and you have baseball.

They need to include salary floors with salary caps, and then start the discussion about revenue sharing again.

Actually, the league being balanced is a common misconception...

The one fear most people had of salary caps is that it will get rid of the great dynasties. Watching the NFL the past decade it's obvious that's not true. It doesn't get rid of dynasties is just changes the way the dynasty is built. It's not based on who has the most resources but rather who has the smartest front office and who's able to use the resources most efficiently. It changes the game from an economic one to a intellectual one.

Revenue hasn't been the Cowboys problem. Management and coaching are the problems that the Cowboys have.

Cowboys are the richest team in the league. They'd generate the most money every year out of any team without having to share, and top it off with no salary cap... just think about that.

I know you want the Cowboys to spend like the Yankees and have teams like the Bengals, the Steelers and Cheifs be uncompetive for 20+ years. OK lets ruin fooball also. I do not understand how people do not want some type of restriction on spending. It is the NFL a LEAGUE, all these teams are in it together, when you have 3 or 4 teams that can spend more than 28 other teams, you have the haves and have nots. I think it can ruin the game, but that is just my humble opinion.

Jerry would just spend more money on Roy Williams types and have the Wade Phillips of the world coaching him.

There they go with the "competitive balance" myth again. Pre free agency era no team went either 16-0 or 0-16. We have had that twice in free agency, and it looks like a good chance to happen again this year. Balance is worse than it was prior to free agency.

Why should Dallas be penalized for that? The other teams need to step up in that case and market their teams better so they make more money and can compete for athletes with Dallas. The league would be much better off in the long run because we will see which teams are for real, and which teams either need new owners, new locations, or just fold.

The cap was introduced in 1994. Remember the Cowboys in the early 1990's? Totally dominant. Who was our owner? Jerry Jones. Once the salary cap was implemented, the team has seen a Super Bowl victory, yes, but absolutely nothing after that.

Wealthy franchises make money because of popularity because they've won big at some point in history and created a following, huge following, like the Cowboys. Why should those teams be taxed or penalized so some lazy bottom feeder team like the Chiefs can leech off them and keep on sucking. This will force those teams to get off their ***** and work in various ways to win and build a following or they can sell out or fold.

My small business doesn't get to leech off of a major corp just because it's a small business, nor should it.

BTW the Steelers will never have a revenue problem they've won 6 SB's and have as huge a following as any franchise in pro sports.

It would be awsome, we could be like the Yankees and get the best free agent every year. We could be in the playoffs every year and never have a losing season in our lifetime. All we would have to do is, out spend everyone else. I dont think even Jerry Jones could screw that up. Wade Phillips might even win a playoff game.

Exactly. That is the world of business. Teams like Dallas and Washington shouldn't be penalized for being marketing giants. Teams like the Jaguars and Bills will be screwed, and that is kind of sad... but again, that is the world of business.

In the long run, the Cowboys will be back to having dynasties. And I'm a hard-core Cowboys fan first and foremost, and that is what I want.

Your corpiration is on its own, it is not part of a LEAGUE. A league needs competitive balance. Competitive balance is part of what makes the NFL the #1 sports league in the world.
The reason the Steelers have no problem , is because of revenue sharing, take it away and they will turn into the Pirates, who have not won anything in over 20 years.
