When the ball is in front of Roy, he is the best safety in the league. He's a game changer and has 7 turnovers this year.

That didnt appear to be the case in the NO game both big plays including the TD he gave up the offensive player was in front of him and he still missed them.

On the TD, that just looked more like a well-thrown ball to me. I thought Roy had decent coverage on that play. IIRC, the ball was placed where only the WR could get it and the only Roy could play it was to get the PI.

To me it looked like he was off balance and a bit out of position otherwise he would of made the tackle.

* I don't ever see Roy moving to LB. That's a different beast. You don't see many safeties doing that.

While I'm a Roy fan and think Roy is at the very least a solid safety in coverage, I think Dallas needs to make it a priority to get better at the safety position. I'd like to see Watkins improve to become a solid starter at FS. Then I'd like to see them get another solid coverage safety as a backup. Then in the nickel they could have Watkins and the other safety play the safety spots and move Roy to the LB spot in the nickel, similar to what the Steelers and the Cardinals do with their strong safeties.

After charting the Saints game, there were some mental errors that hurt us in the nickel packages and on some of the short passes. But one of the issues with the 3-4 is that in order to get big LB's, you give up coverage ability. If we can find safeties to play the nickel and move Roy to LB in the nickel, it will give us a lot more speed and improve our coverage in that defensive package and the defense should be much better.

That is simply untrue. I have never like the defensive philosophy that Parcells has instituted. He likes to play man up, play the run first, gap control, etc... It is a very conservative approach that works sometimes and doesn't others. Even against the giants, the QB never got pressured. I do agree that every defense will get burned once in awhile, but Dallas gets burned on big plays because of a lack of pressure. I would prefer an agressive defensive scheme like San Diego's or even Pittsburgh's.

Pittsburgh's scheme is less aggressive than the Cowboys. They seldom blitz. You don't have to take my word for it, the stats are all in "Pro Football Prospectus 2006". What Pittsburgh does do is get a pass rush with just 4-5 guys.

Actually Pittsburgh's defense is more complex. Prospectus just shows how many times they sent 3 pass rushers, 6 pass rushers, and 7 pass rushers. So it doesn't account for 5 pass rushers which is still a blitz.

But where Pittsburgh's defense is more complex is that they like to zone blitz quite a bit (Dick Lebeau invented the zone blitz). So they can send only 4 pass rushers, but may drop Aaron Smith back in coverage and have Porter and Polamalu rushing the passer. I don't recall us zone blitzing once this season and we may stunt 1-3 times a game if we're lucky.

I think a big part of our problem is that we don't disguise the blitzes very well (although it's been better lately) and Spears, Canty, and Ferguson are practically non-factors rushing the passer.

I think Woodson should just come back for the playoffs.

In all seriousness... An outta shape Woody would be better than Davis or Watkins.
