OK, Hear Me Out. Maybe This Theory Makes Some Sense...

Hope I didn't sound like I thought you were stealing my idea, CA, because that's not what I meant at all... :D

But yeah, Mickey had that sound in his voice like he knew something. Maybe he doesn't and he was just covering for Jerry, but IMO he sounded like he knew something might be going on that people hadn't considered.

No problem, I do remember you mentioning it first. It just didn't all come together in my mind until later. I'm slow. :)

Mick is definitely a homer for Jerry, but you are right there are times he hints at info he knows and this sounds like one of those times. It sure seems like Jerry is taking this slow for some reason.

well Jerry had permission to talk to 3 potential coaches now. There goes that theory.

I think the truth is that Jones wanted Garrett and locked him up. Regardless of whether it was a good idea, he felt he needed to get it done before he was prepared to name a coach.

But to play with theory a bit... the more likely "mystery" name might be Bill Belicheck. A couple of things: Belicheck has been involved in a nasty lawsuit involving a married woman, and there have been reports that Bob Kraft -- more specifically, Bob Kraft's wife -- has been none too pleased. Further, Kraft has developed an ego with regard to the Patriots organization. Maybe he thinks "500 coaches" could win with the organization he has in place. Far-fetched? Yeah. But it was equally far fetched when Jones made that comment all the years ago, putting the final nail in the coffin of his relationship with Jimmy Johnson.

Maybe Jones has reason to think that the Patriots and Belicheck could agree to part ways. Maybe he wants to see whether that might happen... let the thing play out. If it doesn't, he goes with Jason Garrett... or another choice.

Obviously, Jones can't express the slightest interest in Belicheck without being hit with a nasty tampering charge. But if Kraft and Belicheck were to have a blow up... if Kraft were to demand that Belicheck turn his back on that widely discussed indiscretion... if Kraft has become full of himself...

Do I think this is a valid theory? Nah. I don't think Belicheck is going anywhere. But there are facts that can be shaped to fit the theory. Besides, it's fun to consider what might be termed by most as absurd.

I think that since bringing in Garrett this means that if he isnt named head coach, that probally anybody under the age of 55 is totally out of the question.

Because if Jason is being hired to become the next head coach why would Jerry then go out and give the job to a young guy like Rivera, to me it wouldnt make since.

Agree totally.

What young guy is going to come him here and be the next Tony Banks?

What we are going to get is an old guy who gets enough $$ to not give a damn if he's out after a year -- or after a training camp. What Jerry should really concentrate on is an old fart who can bring some serious talent with him as the DC.
