As John Mara, do you fire Coughlin?

As Tom Coughlin, do you bench Eli?

As bad as they are right now, my answers are no and no. How about you?

No and no. Let Eli go through this season and don't give up on the season. The irony if one Manning goes unbeaten, while the other goes winless

Coughlin and Eli have been on the hot seat before. Unfortunately, that is usually when the Giants win a Superbowl and shuts their fan base up. I'm not saying they'll come back this year and win a SB, but if history repeats itself, they might bounce back next year. Hope not.

No and no. I don't wave bye to a proven QB and a proven coach after 1 flop season. They're to hard to find.

I think TC will be retired after the season. Eli is going nowhere.

i would agree with you Hos, mainly b/c what options do they really have if they do either or both of those things?

their backup QB right now is C Painter, who i can't even believe is still in the league, and then they have the rookie from Syracuse. Eli is head and shoulders above both of those guys

and Coughlin has led that team to 2 championships....you could make the argument that maybe his style is wearing thin and that could very well be the case

so i would say no to both, although i will say that i have a feeling that if either one was to happen this year it would be Coughlin

time will tell depending on what they do from here on out

No. If you watch the Giants play you realize that due to their poor drafting since 2008 they simply aren't a good team. And JPP doesn't look right. Whether he's hurt or not. But their linebackers are trash, defensive line are trash and their offensive line are trash. Eli and Coughlin can only do so much. If anyone is worth getting fired it may be Jerry Reese though I wouldn't fire him.

True. I 'liked' the post because I was so ambivalent about it I took the more positive route! :) You're right and don't think that hasn't crossed my mind. But 0-6 is virtually impossible to overcome although a 7-9 record might win the division so I haven't entirely written them off. Even so they would have to go 7-3 and win most every East game (maybe them all).

To answer Hos's post I'd not fire Coughlin nor bench Eli although I don't know what'd I do with the backup QBs once they are eliminated. I'd probably start Eli to avoid the issue of benching the guy in the media's perception but I'd find some snaps for the backups I wanted to see and give game experience to.

It's a very good question and I hope to see some interesting debate on the issue. I wasn't a Coughlin fan until he modified his behaviors towards his players long ago. This is a guy who I can admire while still hating the team just like Shanahan.

Why would you bench a two time SB winner and league MVP for throwing 15 ints. and going 0-6? It's been said that Eli is an "elite" QB. Just because his defense sucks does not mean that he shouldn't be able to win those games. Plus, he actually has some sort of running game. It has to be the fault of his teammates for his demise, it has to, it just has to!

This is a great example of how a very good GM can fall from grace quickly and how difficult it is to acquire and keep talent. It makes one have to look at organizations who manage for the most part to put winning teams out there most years. Jerry bashers take note of the fortunes of war.

I am going to give you some praise. I actually didn't think anyone would notice I left Jerry Reese out of the equation. Still, kind of interesting how we view other teams with a different litmus test than we view our own.

I wouldn't. I don't think it's entirely the fault of Coughlin or Manning that the team is 0-6 right now. They don't have a running game. Their offensive line has had it's issues. Same for the defensive line. They have JAGs across the board at LB. The team as a whole is just not as talented as it was several years ago.

Look I'm one of the bigger Eli haters out there. I can't stand the guy, but I think he's too proven to bench in this situation. And I'd like to think New York would at least show him enough respect to let him finish out his career there after winning to Super Bowls. I've always thought Eli was garbage, but he's made the luckiest plays when it matters in the past. Obviously it's nice to see them playing so bad, but I don't think Eli's a terrible QB all of a sudden. He's the same player he's always been. When hasn't he been INT prone? And Tom Coughlin's debatable at this point, but he's also proven. Are you going to find a coach to replace him that's going to really make the team better? If not then what's the point? Eli and his coach are about as good as the rest of the team. I firmly believe that Romo would look good on any team bc he's that kind of QB. He makes wide receivers around him look better (Crayton, Robinson, etc.) But if you put Eli on an awful team, he's going to be awful. If you put him on a great team, he's going to be great.

LOL yea its definitely interesting. I think its much easier to be a objective NFL fan than ti is to be a fan of your hometown team. We constantly talk about how bad of a GM Jerry is and how bad this organization is at finding talent but if you look at what Reese has done? It would warrant a firing if he didn't have the ring or ring's(depends if you give you credit for the first one) to back it up.

EXACTLY. It took us a offseason to improve this offensive line over being terrible like it was last year. Snee got hurt but even then the line probably still would be in shambles in NY.

I think its easy to sit back and see our teams flaws and blame Jerry and the Cowboys for their holes but when you sit back and look at the rest of the teams in this league? They all hit on about the same amount of draft picks we have. Some teams like the 49ers and Seahawks hit on talent and coaches coached that talent up. But its hard to find talent in this league.

Think of it this way. How many stars are in this league? Legit playmakers? Maybe 20? Maybe 30? Let's say 30. There are what? 32 picks in the 1st round each year....can you imagine how many of those guys in the 1st round end up being flops? A LOT.

My pick would be Reese. When was the last time this team drafted a LB??? Outside of defensive lineman and WR's what had he really done to improve the football team? Prince and Ross were horrible draftpicks as well in that secondary.

No and no. With the success they've had in the past they deserve the right to finish the year out and, as of now, they're only 2 games out of first place.

Seriously, I think these guys are going for the Clowney Sweepstakes. No way they can be this crappy after going 9-7 last year.
