so if he's a bust can we label stanbach a bust also ?

There's a differnce between being a QB and drafted in the 4th round, and turned into a WR

vs

being an overhyped WR, that was projected to be in the 1st round, and then got picked up in the 2nd.

Try again though

Kelly was a second rounder, Stanback was a 4th rounder.

Stanback was taking as a development project. Skins drafted Kelly to help their WR core now.

I wouldn't call Kelly a bust if he went on IR his rookie year, but it wouldn't be an encouraging sign considering all of the reports about his bad knees.

Hey, Campbell was just fine in that Carolina game, he went 6 for 10 with a blistering 3.9 yards per attempt!

Oh, yeah.

True.

Another stellar pick by those awesome Commanders.

I bet a Carolina Panther cheerleader hit Kelly and knocked him out for the season.

Has Jason Campbell completed anything since the Canton game?

I'm told he's got nearly all the pages in the playbook colored in...

From Commanders.com article ( link ):

“We have to develop a plan for him,” Zorn said. “I don’t know what that is going to entail. It’s one of the key decisions we have to make. His talent is there and we recognize it. We recognize that he’s almost back.

“I don’t know if we can afford to keep him active unless we can predict and he can predict he can come through.”

Well in advance of the draft, it was speculated how bad Kelly's knees were. As the draft neared, he had a poor Pro Day. He blamed his poor times on the turf he ran on, complained mightily and had another Pro Day rescheduled at a different location with a new surface. He proceeded to post even worst times.

Obviously, something was adversely affecting his performance before scouts. Surely, the Commanders saw that too, but they drafted him anyway.

Let's fast forward a few months. Kelly undergoes arthroscopic knee surgery several weeks into training camp. Let's jump ahead three weeks later and read what his head coach has to say about Kelly's outlook:

"We have to develop a plan for him."

Well, duh! The only question here is, "When will you?" This isn't something which materialized out of nowhere. The problem has been starting you and the entire Commanders staff in the face for umpteen months and none of you STILL don't have a ONE contingence plan in place? Good grief.

I wish people would stop using injuries as a reason to call someone a bust. To me a bust is a guy who just sucks and doesn't get anywhere near the initial expectations. If you get hurt it has nothing to do with how talented you are or how good you might be.

If Emmitt Smith had ripped up both his knees in his first game as a rookie and never played again..he wouldn't have been a bust..he would have had his career ended due to injury.

How does going on IR make you a bust?

I don't even like Kelly, I was against drafting him from very early on, but that's just silly.

..........Which, in essence is a bust. Any player that doesn't play to his potential (or atleat play to a suitable level) for ANY reason is a bust. The cause is irrelevant. What matter's is the end result. And, yes, if Emmitt Smith would have trashed his knees his rookie season he would have been a bust.

Let's give the guy a couple of years before calling him a bust, he very well might be soft, but let's see him play first without the injuries.
