Carter, Lee, Ro, Durant, Amobi, DLaw, Melton, Crawford, Church, and 2-3 draft pick/ FAs and all of a sudden this defense is starting to come together next year.

The team seems to like Crawford better. When he's been healthy he's been active over Edwards and when they need to make a roster move Edwards has been the guy released. I think the only reason Edwards is on the roster right now is because Crawford is hurt.

Once all the guys are healthy they may not have either on the roster.

Edwards costs us a 7th round pick if he's on the roster for 10 games. I think we cut bait on him for that reason alone

Funny how this year appears to be the polar opposite of the last two years. Back then, all we got was more injuries on top of those we already had. This year, we started out with injuries and have been getting healthier with the passage of time and of course, somewhat more careful planning. Here's hoping that trend continues.

I think that trade is null and void once they released him the first time.

IRVING — Amobi Okoye took another step in his comeback from a serious disease. The defensive tackle practiced in pads Thursday for the first time with the Cowboys.

“It was mixed emotions,” Okoye said. “It felt like it naturally came back. After you play six years in the league it doesn’t take long for stuff like that to come back to you.”

Okoye, who survived a bout with anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis in 2013 that caused a 145-day memory gap, did individual drills and worked with the scout team.

The 6-2 player, who says he is carrying 300 pounds, is hoping to shed some weight as he strives to play in his first game since December 2012. The Cowboys will have 21 days to activate him, release him or keep him on the non-football injury list to which he was assigned in August.

Lol I hope he doesn't shed any of that weight, at that size he can play at the 1 or the 3, and from his comments looks like things may have started well for him.

I think Amobi and Brent would be the biggest guys they'd have on the line (assuming they both get on the 53)

No kidding! Could you imagine what those big uglies could do during the cold season later in the year?

I'll tell you what...this defense just might be the one thing that helps the team later on in the season. Right now, during the warm weather the offense has been doing their job, but come the cold season those big dudes just might be a blessing.

I know it's splitting hairs, but I lean towards keeping Edwards and cutting Jack Crawford.

I did think Edwards showed more Sunday than we've seen from Crawford. However, Dallas has been able to move Edwards back and forth without anyone claiming him, so that might factor in.

This is why I said that Denver may be a year ahead of us. They were able to put together their defense after not having to focus on their offense this offseason. They brought in Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware, TJ Ward, and they drafted Bradley Roby CB in the first round. So right there you have 4 new starters on defense.

The Cowboys will know how much help their defense needs next year, but even if it doesn't need as much as we might have thought initially, it could still get it.

We'll need to draft a corner to help replace Carr. We'll need to draft an edge rusher to play opposite of Lawrence, because you can't rely on Spencer here. Mincey and Selvie should be rotational guys.

Defensive tackle might be all set, and so might the linebackers.

So we're really looking at just getting cornerback help and edge rushers.

Which may allow us to get a right tackle early as well or if we stick with Parnell for another year, we might be able to trade up and get two players in the first round a corner and a defensive end.

I'm curious to know just how much Amobi Okoye can contribute this year.

I think he'll be able to contribute a lot as a rotational guy. The best thing about this defensive line is we aren't asking any of these guys to play 50 snaps a game. This should pay dividends later in the year.

To give you an idea even last year we had Hatcher playing 65% of snaps, and we had already kind of started a rotation going on. If you have snap count data for before we went to the 4-3, you'd probably see that these guys played almost every down.

Nick Hayden played 72% of snaps last year, Selvie played 65.3%,

Right now Mincey is playing 71.8 percent of snaps... this will change, very soon once Lawrence returns, and Spencer is healthier. Tyrone Crawford is at 66.5... that will also have to change.

Nick Hayden is down to 55.9 percent of snaps this year, and even that will go lower. Selvie is at 51.3 percent this year.

Henry Melton is at 46 percent, and that needs to rise.
Terrell McClain is at 25.3 percent and that will need to rise.
Anthony Spencer is at 24.8 percent and that will need to rise.
Jack Crawford is at 18.8 percent, which will drop to 0 soon.
Ken Bishop is at 15.9 percent, and he is on the PS now.
Davon Coleman is at 12.5 percent and he is probably headed towards the PS.
Lavar Edwards is at 8.7 percent, and that will turn to 0 in the future.

I just remember Okoye for being the 19 year old kid drafted I believe by the Texans? Before his unfortunate health issues how was he playing?
