Remember under Tom Landry how the offensive lineman would "hitch up" before each offensive play? This caused unity and synchronization whether that was the intended purpose or not. How about today's O-line trying something like that? If they have to be on the same page to do the "hitch" then maybe they'll be on the same page as far as the count/snap. I don't recall Landry teams having all these penalties.

With this OL, I wouldn't put another piece into their thought processes. They can barely get the ball snapped in unison.

Under Phillips conditioning? No, it wouldn't help at all. While you're right that it would help promote focus among the offensive line, it would do more harm than good since our offensive linemen aren't physicially conditioned under Phillips' system to do it for four quarters. By the fourth quarter, the offensive linemen would be more tired and it would adversely affect their ability to run and pass block. Now, if Phillips institutes a more stringent conditioning program during the offseason and training camp, I would agree, but it's doubtful that will happen.

It's my understanding it was used more to hide the motion in the backfield, even if for just a split second.

I'm afraid Flo would have some incredible problems with this...he'd hitch in his false start.

Andre Gurode's head might just explode.

Appariently they are not too smart.

As pointed out earlier, it was designed to hide the backfield motion.

BTW- A Landry team STILL has the Cowboy record for most penalties in a season. He had his share.

Tom Landry didn't coach Mr. Adams either. :laugh2:

The guy cannot help himself. I almost think it's rigged when I see him do it every game. Because honestly, how is it possible that he gets at least one in every single game? Heck, if you didn't see who jumped offsides and you just guessed "Adams did it," you'd be right at least once in the game.

It's likely they would be doing the "wave" or even worse some form of "whack-a-mole" thing where they are all prairie-dogging and popping up out of sync.

No, I don't think it would help with this group and as others have pointed out its main purpose was to hide the motion in the backfield from the defense.

Wouldn't work on this team, but man you just brought back some fond memories

Now that would be hilarious.

When I posed the question to myself, I was thinking exactly what everyone here has said - this current team is not disciplined enough to do that "well oiled machine" thing that the Landry teams did.

Thanks for that tidbit. I didn't know that.

None of this could happen until Gurode learns how to count.

Now you want to add something else for them to do and learn to COUNT to? Who do you think they are? Not sure if you are aware of this but they generally do not put the smartest people on the line.

if it is a concentration thing that is causing false starts, bad snaps...than yes I think it really would be a good thing....if it is because they are being overtasked with information than it would be a bad thing

Two big differences between the OL in Landry's time and what we have today. First off, our OL then were very smart. Our OL now have trouble differentiating between a Tootsie Roll and a turd. Second, our OL then were much smaller and more mobile. OL today (not just ours either) are so damn big, they'd be too tired to do it in the second half.
