OL is making me very nervous right now. With Smith's issues with his back (he's back in practice today but apparently limited) you really only have two sure things in Frederick and Martin.

The one thing doesn't make me totally panic is that as much as Collins has been up and down, it's no worse than what we got out of Free the last season. I liked Free but he didn't play great last year. It won't be difficult for Collins to match Free.
I don't think thw concern about who is the iasue..

it should be when.

They need time togethwr as a unit to get a groove.

Not going to be enough time to get these guys ready.

B/w this and the Zeke thing..

it enough to dump our season.

Mickey was on The Fan earlier saying that the team is a bit concerned with the current state of the oline because of Tyron's back issues, the lack of a dependable swing tackle on the team (they don't trust Chaz Green), nobody really asserting themselves at the RG position, and Collins' rusty game on Saturday. He said they continued to play him because of the issues he was having.

I think the defense will be slightly better this year but still average overall just because of all the youth we're starting. So if the offense even takes a small step back we might be in trouble.

Cleary is not very good at LT. Is Green the only other legit option. I thought they might try Bell at OT.

La'ell will be fine a RT and they'll manage at LG; however, the swing Tackle is huge concern.

Green did return to practice last week and they had him at OT; however, who knows how long he'll be healthy enough to play. When he does play, he's 10x better than Cleary.

They could have had a good RT which would have allowed them to keep La'ell at LG and be an option to move to OT if an injury occurred. We're going to end up suffering from the decision a couple of years ago to re-sign Free and let Parnell move on.

Should have kept Leary. And Collins should have been getting reps at RT years ago. The guy been playing G then they moved him to RT.

If the Cowboys didn't have the cap room (at the time) to pay Leary what Denver did. What really surprised the Cowboys was Doug Free hanging up his cleats. I think they were planning on one more year with Free at RT and the initial plan was to plug in Collins at LG.

There is only one issue and that is Tyron's back.

Assuming the worst, place Collins at LT. Cooper will be the left guard. Give RT to the beat available option. He doesn"t have to be Pro Bowl level, the Pro Bowlers surrounding him will bring out hia best. Its a pride thing, he wont want to lwr them down.

Collins looks pretty shaky at right tackle in pass protection.

I'd rather have a good left guard than a below average right tackle.
Collins will certainly not be a below average Right Tackle. His floor at that position is probably average, and when its all said and done he will likely be above average. I would rather have a good right tackle than a good left guard.

Free play decline in the past years and been dealing with chronic foot issues. I doubt Free would have been starter material going into another year. Everyone saw this coming but I bet they was thinking Chaz Green could have stayed healthy. But they should of had Collins play some RT earlier in his career.

What the boys need to do in the next week or so is decide on who they are going with at LG and then get the unit WORKING together. THAT will make a huge difference in the early season.

Bottom line is that Collins is our most viable candidate at RT because we cannot trust Green. So keep Green as the swing tackle. Less likely to get injured on the bench. I would start Cooper and stay with him; only if he really stinks would I try someone else. Get the line playing together; that is critical.

I remember when the Cowboys moved Tyron from RT to LT and he initially struggled. Some even said he wasn't a left tackle. How did that work out?

Patience, Collins will be fine.

Patience is a strange concept around these parts. Has the entire starting O-Line even player a series together? I'm with you, the online is the least of our worries.
