Exactly why is it ban on the day of competition? rofl. That would only lower the contestants results lol.

I guess they don't want any daisy strolls to a gold medal.

Don't see it soon. Maybe 5 years down the road when MJ is getting legal all over the country and the public as a whole has different views of it.

I'm just tired of players getting suspended over literally nothing. Its ruining the competitiveness of the sport.

Pro athletes can already do whatever they want. If they can't smoke weed than that's their problem. Not that hard to not do it. Most people don't do it because they don't want to risk their crappy jobs. They can not do it to make millions to play a game. They retire in their 30s not 60s!

The thing I will say on the NFL behalf... They give these guys 3 or 4 chances before they ever face suspension. I mean come..

Maybe they could not have random testing after a failed test for marijuana as a way to make it even more less likely to get suspended.

The fact that it's illegal on a federal level is still beyond me. Especially when they legalize it in the states. The U.S. is so backwards. Alcohol is legal and it's by far the worst thing.

Ain't that the truth.

It's one thing to believe it should be legal. It's another to fail 4 tests.

That's like believing the speed limit is too low, so you accelerate whenever you see a cop.

What would they have, scheduled testing? If so I think that would be a good idea. Let players know that they are going to be tested and try to keep them off it long enough to realize that they can go without if they are forced to.

Yep..

I believe it should be legal but I also believe that players should obey the rules to make millions.

Even if you don't obey the rules then you still get 3+ chances.. Grow up. People are depending on you and you're being well compensated. Come on!

I know Randy Gregory has got some issues but my gosh... You're a Dallas freakin Cowboy man and you're making good money AND you got kids... Marijuana just can't be your only coping mechanism.. It just can't.

That's what they already do!

The only way you get tested randomly is if you fail their pre-scheduled test! Unbelievable... Right? These guys don't give a ....

They're all subject to random tests as far as I knew. I mean after the random fail, they are tested like twice a month for however many months.

My understanding is they are tested before and after the season and if they fail either one of those tests they can be randomly tested.

NFL players are tested for recreational drugs once a year, during a window mandated by the collectively bargained substance-abuse policy. That window opens in the spring (this year, coincidentally, it’s on 4/20) and ends early in the preseason. But largely because of the cost of dispatching drug testers, the vast majority of players are tested during training camp, when they’re all in one place. All a player usually needs to do is make sure he pisses clean by the time he reports to camp, and once he’s tested, he can smoke as much as he wants for the next year.

If a player passes his one test, he won’t be tested again until the next April-August. One former medical personnel called it an “intelligence test, because it’s once a year, and you know it’s coming.” One agent quipped that players sometimes will throw “smoking parties” as soon as their testing is complete.

Marijuana is so much less dangerous than alcohol it's not even funny. But you have to abide by the laws of the state you live in.

And until the law changes, the NFL is unlikely to change it's stance on the issue. The DEA recently decided not to reschedule it people got pissed. Of course, they couldn't just reschedule it.

As marijuana has no recognized medical use (approved by the FDA), it would either require the definition for a schedule 1 drug to change or they would have to remove it from the schedule system all together. Until the FDA approves it for it's use or enough states legalize the drug, the DEA is in no hurry to change anything.
