And until the law changes, the NFL is unlikely to change it's stance on the issue. The DEA recently decided not to reschedule it people got pissed. Of course, they couldn't just reschedule it.

As marijuana has no recognized medical use (approved by the FDA), it would either require the definition for a schedule 1 drug to change or they would have to remove it from the schedule system all together. Until the FDA approves it for it's use or enough states legalize the drug, the DEA is in no hurry to change anything.

That's a bunch of poppycock...but it's a political discussion.

What isn't factual? Point it out.

The bolded is not a fact. Much of the rest isn't fact either, however, it is an opinion that is likely true (such as the point about the NFL being unlikely to change its stance).

Perhaps you were just restating positions of certain departments, but their positions are poppycock.

Of course, on this issue, I think the federal government is well outside of its Constitutional authority.

The FDA has not approved marijuana itself for any use. Thought I made it pretty clear that was what I was saying.

Because of that, they absolutely couldn't reschedule it because it is the lack of medical application that makes it a schedule 1 drug.

NFL players are tested for recreational drugs once a year, during a window mandated by the collectively bargained substance-abuse policy. That window opens in the spring (this year, coincidentally, it’s on 4/20) and ends early in the preseason. But largely because of the cost of dispatching drug testers, the vast majority of players are tested during training camp, when they’re all in one place. All a player usually needs to do is make sure he pisses clean by the time he reports to camp, and once he’s tested, he can smoke as much as he wants for the next year.

If a player passes his one test, he won’t be tested again until the next April-August. One former medical personnel called it an “intelligence test, because it’s once a year, and you know it’s coming.” One agent quipped that players sometimes will throw “smoking parties” as soon as their testing is complete.

and if you do happen to fail the idiot test then you only have to stay clean for 90 days and you are out the program and back to one test a year like everyone else......like Cris Carter said just have a fall guy and never get arrested holding the weed yourself

So what does this tell you about Gregory and McClain when most of the league still smokes.

They just don't care.

Also, why don't these players just try the CBD oil that Nate Diaz was using after UFC 202.

It does a lot of the things marijuana supposedly helps guys like Gregory with and it is not illegal.

Well marijuana does have recognized medical uses, even if the FDA is stupid about it.

But again, it's completely beyond their authority anyway.

The FDA is far from an efficient, reliable federal organization. It passes deadly things all of the time and doesn't pass things that have been proven to work in Europe simply because of kickbacks by Pharmaceutical companies. Until the FDA gets overhauled or the American public overwhelmingly presses the issue, we won't see a legalized marijuana federally.

The players are the leagues greatest asset. The concept of punishment is outdated and hurts the league and the players. The Owners and the NFL need to take a more mature approach and follow the proven example of the NHL. When a players gets caught using any illegal drug they are placed in a rehab program and still allowed to earn a living and entertain the fans. The NFL role needs to change and they need to pass the responsibility of player correction to the clubs. If a team decides a player cannot be redeemed by rehab they can simply release him. The NFL only hurts its own image and product with this poor concept of punishment over additions.
