Of course ratings are down. The meaningful stuff is being aired/streamed at super weird times because it is held in APAC time zone.
I'd watch a lot of stuff if it were held in more common hours. 6-9PM.
Tape delay stuff is OK but with the massive internet presence you already know the results.

Make dumb decisions.........get dumb consequences....
I don't know if it was a dumb decision or the only one they could make. Tokyo wanted to cancel but the losses would be tremendous, the Olympic Committee had to balance another postponement, not feasible, or cancelling the games and what about the athletes that have been preparing so hard for their chance at history?

The window for some of these athletes is so small for them to capitalize on all of those years of commitment and dedication and I do think that's a strong part of this that if that is taken away by a decision to cancel and they have to wait until 2024, the window will have closed.

That said, I haven't watched a minute of it, just don't have any interest and I really don't know why as I was a track guy in high school and have always loved Track and Field sports.

I cannot explain the feeling but nothing feels normal. I haven't paid any attention to the Cowboys camp and wouldn't watch the Hard Knocks crap if I was paid. I am hoping that some football getting back into motion will snap me out of it. I am struggling to get fired up about anything.

Andre DeGrasse the one guy Tyreek Hill couldn't beat in the JC ranks has a great shot at winning the Olympic gold in the 100m for Canada.

I haven't watched any of it except for golf which was pretty intense down the stretch. Xander fighting some nerves and clutching up at the same time.

When you lose half the audience from a previous Olympics which if I remember correctly were down from the ones before, then the fallout will be huge.

Only the stupid and agenda driven will deny that.

Some will also deny the live events are taking place in the middle of the night here so results are known well before they air on TV.

Agendas come in many forms.

Nobody really seems to know much about the athletes involved, that can't be good.

One has to pull out to get any notice. Weird!

Good!

The Olympics are supposed to be about sport. Only sport, nothing more. They can take all the rest of this horse manure and let the ratings speak to it.
USA Men’s Basketball wins the Gold. Ha.

yes they do. They are way down from the 2008 and 2012 olympics. Its been a distinct fall for some time. Though this year the fall is steeper.
Personally I think its all the crass commercialism you see. The Olympics used to have an innocence that drew so many in. That is long gone. Only in the real minor sports do you still see any at all.

Add in all the politics and the me me me of all too many of the pros involved and none of it is surprising.

I started watching and remembering in 1968. At least some of it; from then on I was a steady watcher until around 2004 when the changes became so much. Have not watched any at all of this years.

It is notable that the original olympics were discontinued because of professional athletes and things like that. History possibly repeating itself.

There are so many memories I have of past Olympics. I guess they will have to do.

I would say with ratings at 51% for primetime, NBC is going to the makegood well a lot to cover for that. That is a disaster for them but they were committed as well so they take their lumps.

Going to be interesting to track the college football and NFL ratings because every other sport has been off and some dramatically.

I wonder if this is because of the pandemic or are we seeing the trend they cannot ignore? Are we already in that area of too many distractions and offerings and the ratings for certain sports productions have peaked? College football and the NFL do not have to worry because they're still going to be the most viewed live events, and most likely not to get time shifted, each week but they are still subject to the ratings points the ad agencies demand.
