7. I believe scandrick will have his best yeae., So he will be our best corner

This is exactly where I am. Scandrick looks like he's healthy and has his swagger back. He plays best when he's pissed off and I think this offseason and the draft has done that. He looks like the best cornerback they have at this point.

And based on last year's results, and limited information this year, I'd put my confidence in Brown at a 7 as well. Need to see more.

With little consistent pass rush, the plan seems to be stop the run, don't give up big plays in the passing game, hold teams to FGs and hope our offense can control the clock and score at a high clip.

It worked last year but I wonder if that's a model that can consistently work year to year.

That's definitely the M.O. for a defense that doesn't have enough overall talent. Don't give up easy scores.

But overall, I think they do have more talent than they did last year. And while I would have liked to see the rookies get more work, I'm still optimistic that they will pleasantly surprise.

A solid 8. the question is how confident you are not what your rating as a CB is. Maybe some are confusing that in their answers. Just my guess.
Last year at this time some may have had him as a PS at best. He played very well most of the time last year after being thrown in as the starter. Well above all expectations. sure he made a few mistakes, but so does seasoned vet player at times too.

And you really can't go by his TC this year. Limited with a hamstring, and no game planning. I think once the game plans are in place, and all the starters are playing regular, we will see those rating points rise.

I give him an 8, because he is a 2nd year player, so mistakes will happen. Just hope they don't cost a game, because we will get a mega-thread of negative Nancy posts...LOL...

5 to 6. I had big hopes for him coming off a strong finish to the 2016 season but from most reports he's been just OK in camp. Hopefully he's just one of those guys that when the lights come on, he plays better than he practices.
I think there may be alot of truth to that. I don't recall his name catching many mentions until he was forced into the rotation...so he could be another one of those players in a long line of players that just doesn't bring the same intensity in practice/preseason as compared to what he does when the bullets are live.

Straight forward question. How much confidence do you have in the guy we are relying on to essentially be our #1 CB.

After watching him in preseason I'm probably only at about a 5. I think he belongs more as a 3rd CB/slot guy then he does trying to cover stud WR's on the outside.
I'll go with 7...but I say that with an important caveat: I don't think he starts. My guess is Scandrick and Carroll will be the opening starting corners. When the Cowboys go to the Nickel, he will take an outside spot and Scandrick will slide into the slot. But that is just a guess and alot does hinge on Carroll's pending suspension situation, which could be dropped on him any day now.

6.5. I was more confident about him at the end of last season; however, I am sure he hasn't suddenly become a worse player, so that number should probably be higher. I can't explain it but I think maybe he regresses a little bit this year.

Confident in what? Inside or outside? Making plays on the ball? Tackling? Pass breakup? Preventing TDs? And most importantly confident releative to what? Legit starter or a 2nd yr 6th rd pick?

I like Brown. He is a 2nd yr player that is still learning. Obviously we have no idea what his ceiling is. I am confident he'll make some fantastic plays and will give up some plays. I am confident he'll show up every day trying to improve and one day just may make himself into a full-time starter. I think he has a great attitude for the position. He is aggressive and appears to have a short-term memory so when he gets beat it doesn't weigh him down going forward.

While it's possible a 30 year old CB (Scandrick) can have his best season yet, he would be defying the odds. 30-31 is when many CBs start declined rapidly.

Hopefully that's not O-Scan.

First 8 games: 5
Second 8 games: 8

That puts me at a 6.5 for the season. I think they'll get better as the season improves.

In what way are we relying on him to be our #1? We're not going to be moving him around to match-up with the other team's best guy. I'd say Scandrick is likely to be the better player this year, if camp reports are accurate.

I think Brown is a good #3, slightly below average #2 right now. I expect him to keep improving, but I'd go with a 6/10.

7 as a #2 CB, 4 (generously) if he's supposed to be the guy, which I don't is the case

The D's from that line have always been bend but dont break defenses.
