Our secondary is looking excellent,it should 4 all the money. The line and linebacker corps look strong, add the experience of Zach Thomas.I hope he stays healthy. Will RW be back to form?If so not a weak link on the D.

Seeing it on the field is believing... I'm sorry but I refuse to get hyped up over a unit that's not played yet.

i think we may have reversed from last year with problems. nice secondary now with depth and speed, Williams is supposedly rededicating himself if he can atleast make some hits again thats an upgrade. Zach Thomas is a major upgrade . But i think maybe this will be the year spears finally sticks out and the d line will be in line for upgrades by end of next season . Barring a breakout season from Tank

On paper this defense looks like a very good unit but they need to prove it week in and week out. There will be days when the offense is not clicking but great defenses do it week in and week out. This is what I expect out of our defense.

Same here, let's see how it all unfolds...No guarantees that one strong season leads to a stronger next one...Plus, the SS position remains unchanged

To answer the man's question, on paper the only flaw i see in this defense is the ILB(James) and SS (Willliams)

James has the tendandcy to be over aggressive and out of position alot. You hope the addition of Thomas will allievate that, but that can't be seen on paper

Williams has claimed to be re-dedicating himself, and bringing back the Old Williams, but again on paper he's still a weak link.

Now of course from week to week , starting at TC we can see what flaws will be fixed or shown, but as of right now, i see only two.

Roy Williams is still the starter...so there is your obvious weakness. We still have to see how Tank Johnson holds down the NT that can free up Ratliff to the end. IF Tank is as good as coaches are reporting AND if Dallas can get Williams off the field on passing downs...Dallas will have a vastly improved Defense.

If Zach Thomas can't play a full year, I see problems at inside linebacker.

I don't trust Burnett. I have even less faith in Carpenter.

The only flaws I see is

* Bradie James in pass coverage (Reports are in that he has been working on his drops and he's learning how to cheat on likely patterns, coaches think he's primed for a pro bowl season)

* Roy Williams in pass coverage (His work with Campo and Maxie should help along with plyometric work)

* Not enough pressure from the front 3 in the base defense which should be helped by working on their technique.(Which is also suppose to be what the new dl coach has them working on)

On paper, this should be one of the top 5 defenses in the league. We'll see what happens.

Certain players have limitations, but we've got options on the bench that eliminate most of that exposure and lets our coordinators play matchup football. When your pro bowl SS is your weak link, you're a pretty good unit. I'm interested to see how much pass coverage from the ILB position improves this year.

im very excited the only place you could possibly call weak is spears, and roy in the passing game. with ratliff moving overtop spears, and roy coming out of passing downs, we are bound to be sick.. imagine our nickel.. with henry at FS and hamlin over at SS. and our corners out.. oh man..

I leave the paper championships to the Commanders.

Yes, I see some potential flaws. Depth at ILB possibly.

Spears is not weak against the run. At all.

If you think Hatcher could do better, I question your sanity.

Can our "D" pressure the QB.

That's all I'm concerned with.
WR core will be fine...in my eyes. :starspin

Potential flaws,

1. ILB in case Z Thomas gets injured.

This scenario is not especially far fetched.

2. Consistent pressure and performance from our DL.

I'm sold on Ratliff, but both Spears, Canty, and Hatcher need to keep improving (which they should). Also, we'll have to see how Tank comes along, and he's a pretty big piece of the puzzle with respect to the DL.

IMO, our DL is not as good as the Pats' front, for example, though I do like our LBs and Secondary more - assuming we stay healthy.

I'm not saying that our front 3 aren't going to take the next step, but rather that I'd like to see them take the next step before I feel comfortable proclaiming them a top 5 defense.
