On first and second downs I still believe that we are weak underneath and in the middle.

James did a better job last year but is still a liability in coverage and Ellis just isnt equipped to handle backs and TEs in coverage. Then of course there is Roy .

Now in the nickel that goes away and the coverage abilities of our corners will help mask that but its still an issue. Against the run we are strong across the board especially with Tank on board.

In the nickel I have issues with both Roy and Burnett in coverage underneath.

The only flaws I see is

* Bradie James in pass coverage (Reports are in that he has been working on his drops and he's learning how to cheat on likely patterns, coaches think he's primed for a pro bowl season)

* Roy Williams in pass coverage (His work with Campo and Maxie should help along with plyometric work)

* Not enough pressure from the front 3 in the base defense which should be helped by working on their technique.(Which is also suppose to be what the new dl coach has them working on)

How many first first rounds (potential) starters do we have? (ie Adam Jones is a potential starter)

Yes we have flaws as have been mentioned already.

But overall I don't think there is any question we have better personal than last year.

The big thing I'm anxious to see is any improvement with a year in Wade's defensive system behind us. That learning curve should be in the rear view mirror now and we can concentrate on getting better.

Don't know why it pained me so to read through this thread. Considering the OP's question: On paper,Does anyone see a flaw in our D?

Should've realized that type of question would invite negative responses.

Still, how is it that not one of you took the positive spin.

Nobody talked of the exceptional depth at CB and how it was our biggest 2007 hole.

Even more surprising is that nobody stepped up and predicted we would have a top 5 defense.

As far as my answer to the original question, yes I see a few potential flaws.

But the real question is the real question is, how does this defensive roster stack up against the rest of the NFL?

I rank it #1 in football.

I worry about our lack of bulk in the front three.

I've never really been a fan of the 34. I don't like it as a run-stopping defense. If you watch our games from last year, it seemed that teams had decent success running on us at times. The Giants especially rammed the ball down our throats. I never could understand why they deviated from the running game in the reg season.
